  • Today's the day (31/5/05)

Hello everyone. I'm so glad i found this site.

I'm starting on Atkins today, I've never been on a diet before (although i should have tried) so I'm not really sure what to expect.

I've read the book (up to chapter 12) and it all sounds really fantastic, but i can't help that little voice in the back of my head saying that its simply a fad diet that won't work - the claims all seem to be to good to be true, but after having a look around the forum and seeing some of the before/after pictures I'm convinced that Atkins is for me.

One of my main worries about it is the fact that I'm a very fussy eater, and all the recipes that are featured on the Atkins websites and the ebooks I've found all seem to contain ingredients that i don't like, it just seems that I'm going to me eating single slabs of meat for the next few weeks.

Anyway, that's all from me for now - just wanted to say hi.

    Hi,
I started Atkins june of last year so I could prove it didnt work and there was no possible way for me to loose weight. I have lost 48 pounds. If you follow induction you will loose. I am glad you found us and look forward to sharing in your journey

You don't need to follow any specific recipes on Atkins. That's the beauty of it, that you can customize it to suit your own tastes, providing you stay within the Rules of Induction and eat the proper amounts from the Acceptable Foods list.

Choose the vegetables that you enjoy and eat those...but be mindful that a wide variety of vegetables will give you a broader base of nutrients and fiber...both of which are important.
Start out with meat and salads, or meat and raw veggies with blue cheese or ranch dressing to dip them in. Stay simple until you feel comfortable with branching out.

But do branch out! You may find that foods you thought you didn't like are now foods you quite enjoy. Go through the recipe links here, and read the food forums..you never know what you'll run into!

Boredom with food is a stumbling block with a lot of people, and it's up to you to experiment and try different things so you can avoid that. :yes

Hi and welcome. That's great that you have your Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). It will be your best tool! I'm sure picky eaters will find at least some foods from the acceptable food lists. As you know from the book, you must eat three cups of veggies per day. No skipping them on this way of eating (woe)! We're all here to help you reach your goals. :wave

Thanks for all your support guys :icondance

One problem though, while shopping today i found the Atkins Endulge bars, i bought two - plus two boxes of the morning shine bars, knowing that they're ok to be used on the induction.

I've just eaten the first Endulge bar, then i read the able and noticed that it isn't safe for induction - how much will this set me back?

No-one can tell you as all of us react differently.

All you can do is get right back on a clean induction. :hug

Many people are 'stalled' by the processed 'low carb' foods so it would be better to put them away till you are further along on your Atkins journey.

Stick to whole, unprocessed foods for the next few weeks to give yourself the best chance of being successful :yes
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

                  Hi
Glad you have taken the 1st step. The only advice I can give you is keep your induction clean! Only eat the products on the allowed list. I can't promise you will not get bored but stick to it! I have eaten loads of high fat meat and found that after a while you will not feel hungry. Eat your allocation of vegies and drink decaf coffee and water. Water means water not low cal drinks. Stay of diet coke etc. Quick induction safe bread is not bad and makes the greasy fried breakfast taste a whole lot better. Good luck
