  • Atkins Flu

I started Atkins a few weeks ago and had NO troubles for the first four days. I felt great and found it pretty easy. Day 5 hit and man did it throw me on my behind. I don't ever recall feeling so lousy. I went home after work and laid in bed while my whole body cramped up. (Not deydration...trust me....I drink over 4 liters a day of water dieting or not)

I quit....drinking orange juice and going back to the old ways.

I had lost 7 pounds and even after I quit I kept 6 off. But in all honesty, I don't want to go through with that again. Is it normal? What can I do? How long does it usually last?

"Induction Flu" is Atkineer slang for the carbohydrate withdrawals some folks experience. It goes away in a few days.

The other thing is were you taking your multivitamin supplements Dr. Atkins advised us to? Were you eating your vegetables---all 3 cups worth---daily? If you were eating vegetables, were you restricting yourself to the nutritionally deficient lettuce or were you eating the other veggies on the lists that are more nutritious? Were you drinking the minimum 64 ounces of water daily---ketosis has a strong diuretic effect and you lose alot of water?

For me, it was off an on. I'd have days where I'd get the legs cramps and whatnot but honestly, it made me feel like I must have been doing something right. I just got through it and pushed on.

You know how when you do a really good workout and you get sore? That's what I'd always equate it too.
