  • I'm new..on day 8, an i think i'm not eating enough calories

Hi guys! I am SO glad I've found this forum. This is exactly the kind of site I have been looking for. I started induction 8 days ago. I have read DANDR twice cover to cover. During that time I have been averaging 850 cals a day without being hungry. I thought this was low...so I did some reading here and found the sticky post about basal metabolic rate and how one should eat at the basal metabolic so the body doesn't go into starvation mode! Now I'm worried I already put myself into starvation mode, but, maybe not after only 8 days. Plus, honest to god, I have felt satiated, but I did also experince headaches, but I am over that part now. Any it says my basal is 1450. But it said my safe cal intake for weight loss is 1200. so which should i do 1450 or 1200. If 1200 is safe, can I just pop a handful of macadamias and an avocado extra each day, and be around 1200 without going into starvation mode? I have lost exactly 5 lbs so far, I know part of that was the water. Please let me know your thoughts. Also, I am only trying to lose 22 pounds total. I'm feeling really good about eating lkike this and my husband has started it too to shrink his tummy and love handles, although he is not considerably overweight. If anything for health reasons. I also have rhuematoid arthritis, and over the years I have noticed On my own that if i eat less carbs for a few days, my arthritis is nearly gone (the pain). I am 27 years old.

    Thanks!

    Hi and welcome.

The easiest way to add calories is to add fat. If you max out your cheese allotment or don't eat cheese, you can use butter on your vegetables and meats, make sauces out of mayonnaise, make sauces out of eggs (Hollandaise or Bearnaise). 1 tablespoon of butter has about 100 calories. 1 tablespoon of olive oil has about 100 calories. 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise has 100 calories. So if you have a cup of steammed broccoli for dinner tonight, have a tablespoon of butter melted onto your portion. If you are eating a broiled salmon steak, mix a teaspoon of chopped dill weed with a tablespoon of butter and let that melt on top of your salmon.

You are limited to 1/2 an avocado during Induction. And no nuts are allowed during the first 14 days.

    I hope that helps.

Yeah what she said, ^^^^^ Calories is not the big issue here and for most of us we don't worry about it.....

You will do just fine....Johnny :guns
