I have to drink the Atkins Advantage Shakes because I'm always on the go and if it weren't for them I would never get even close to three meals a day I usually only have one but if I'm extra busy I will have one for breakfast and lunch I'm also on day 15 of induction is this ok??

No its not ok, Never ever should you replace those drinks with more than one meal aday. And I wouldn't use them unless I was eating 5 meals a day and substituted for one of them.

Get off the shakes, they have been known to stall people, and since you weigh everyday, you shall find out.

Prepare in advance what you are going to eat, cook the night before. This is not slimfast, can't have a shake for breakfast and lunch and have a sensible meal. You are not getting enough calories and you will cause your body to hold onto every lb. Which would explain the 5lb increase over night.

        nutrition

Learning to cook, learning to plan ahead, nourishing your mind and body by eating regular meals with wholesome healthy food is a
        big part of Atkins.

The shakes can't do that for you. Sounds like you are keeping your body
        in starvation mode.

It is possible you still cling to a low fat dieters mentality.
Skipping meals, drinking shakes on the run, jumping
on the scale everyday, not taking responsibility for your choices...

These rituals are empty and will not lead you to weight loss and
        peace of mind.

RE-READ the 2002 DANDR and follow induction to the letter,
eat 3 meals a day and a snack using real food.

FightingTheFight has hit the nail on the head.

Do yourself a favour, don't even have one a day. Save the money for all the new clothes you're going to need when you lose the weight by doing this properly.

You are not building good eating habits by relying on a can of processed stuff to nourish yourself. Your body needs fiber and the nutrition that comes from real food. You are supposed to be learning how to eat healthily during Induction and OWL. Are you doing that when you rely on a can of goo?

Failure to plan is planning to fail when it comes to Atkins.

It takes me 1 minute in the morning to break off a few chunks of broccoli, cauliflower, or whatever veggie I have handy, throw it in a container with some cheese and cold sausage, or leftover chicken...fill another small container with blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing and voila! Lunch!
Breakfast is a couple boiled eggs that I keep the fridge stocked with. Takes 1 minute to peel two of them.

In your message about not being able to help yourself weigh everyday we talked about the issue of control.

You are in charge of yourself...YOU have all the control here...you just need to rise up to it, and accept that.

Try and think nutritionally....fresh is best.

Here's an interesting read about Dr. Atkins opinion of bars and shakes...

The patients who stayed, however, were extremely loyal to both atkins and his low-carb diet. But they had one major complaint: In a fast-paced world where everything was low in fat or high in carbohydrates or both, it was difficult to find something that they could eat on the run while still remaining on the low-carb program. They had no time to prepare their own snacks. Perhaps something like the low-fat energy bars sold in convenience stores would be great, only low-carb instead.

Atkins hesistated, and for a good reason. One of the things he constantly stressed with his patients was that they should eat foods that were as close to their natural state as possible, and for him, any kind of energy bar was as good as poison since it was clearly a processed food...

But his patients continued to beg him for something---"you sell the vitamins and other supplements, why not energy bars?" they reasoned--and so, with great reluctance, he gave in and developed not only an energy bar but also a low-carb shake that would make it easier for patients to keep to their Atkins programs.

"As long as you only use it for emergencies," he reminded them.

          ****

The energy bars and shakes were a necessary evil, there only because he thought his patients were too lazy to prepare the real kind of unprocessed foods that were the mainstay of his diet.

To be honest I would save those for maybe a treat? You are trying to get your body to convert to being healthy, and those ingredients are really not healthy all chemically produced. Now one might say, I don't care about being healthy, I just want to lose weight. Well if your body is happy with the food and healthy, then only will it burn fat the best!

Oh yeah, none of the ingredients are allowed during induction. Plus they are expensive.

I gurantee, stick to a clean induction for the two weeks and you will be alot better off I promise!

Remember, whole foods are best, and water, water, water!

                Johnny,

Sometimes when you repeat it, it helps stick in the mind. Just remember, the more water you drink, the more easier it is for your body to burn fat and flush it off your body! Lets go over a few reasons why we stress water.
                ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
                1) regulates body temperature
                2) makes up 83% of blood
                3) removes waste
                4) composes 75% of brain
                5) helps carry nutients and oxygen to cells
                6) moistens oxygen for breathing
                7) helps convert food to energy
                protects and cushions vital organs
                9) helps body absorb nutients
                10) accounts for 22% of bones
                11) cushions joints
                12) makes up 75% of muscles

As you begin to lose fat, your body increases its percentage of water. So the amount of water you need to drink each day increases. This is
especially so the more active you become. Your body is signaled to hold more water. It will usually let you know it needs more water by making you thirsty, but not always.

ncredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true "magic potion" for permanent weight loss.

Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.
Here's why: The kidneys can't function properly without enough water. When they don't work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But, if the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it can't operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat, more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When the body gets less water; it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Water is stored in extracellular spaces (outside the cells). This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands
Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a threat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus, the condition quickly returns.

The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs--plenty of water. Only then will stored water be released.

If you have a constant problem with water retention, excess salt may be to blame. Your body will tolerate sodium only in a certain concentration. The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it.
But getting rid of unneeded salt is easy--just drink more water. As it is forced through the kidneys, it takes away excess sodium.
The overweight person needs more water than the thin one. Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the overweight person needs more water.
Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss--shrinking cells are buoyed by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and resilient.

Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has a lot more waste to get rid of--all that metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste.

Water can help relieve constipation. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Result? Constipation. But, when a person drinks enough water, normal bowel function usually returns.
