  • Confessions of a Daily weigher

ok ok so yeah, I have been weighing every day. I never had a scale before, so I'm becoming obsessive with the one I have now! It's more like I am just curious to see, but I don't think gaining a pound or 2 would get me down, because I know how the process works, and I know some days I might gain. About a month ago when I went to my grandma's house, I weighed myself at 205...then I started eating better (I wouldnt call it a diet, I still ate hot pockets and pizza rolls, just didnt eat the WHOLE box like I used to! :-p)
So I got my new scale, weighed in at 201 the morning I started Atkins...then the next day, I just couldn't help myself...I had lost 2 lbs already! woot! Then this morning I checked again and I was down another pound Now I'm getting addicted to my daily weigh ins....uhoh! I'm assuming if I gain a pound or two I might stop. hehe.

I know the feeling. I have an obsession with weighing my self. I had to have my hubby take it away and hide it so I wouldn't till the end of the induction. But I do other things try on clothes that were to small and see ext......

I too am a daily weigh addict... but you know, I find that it keeps me motivated. Every morning after I have my coffee, I weigh in.... just to see what's going on. Each day I've been on Induction so far I"ve lost a tleast a lb... in 5 days total now it's 8 lbs gone! WOOHOO.....
I think daily weighing has its pros and cons, but it just depends on how you look at it. I use it as motivation... to do more exercise, to keep eating right.... stick to the book and keep it going!

Today I took another new picture and wowieeeee I didn't know 8 lbs could make such a difference... so that keeps me motivated as well!! I posted it in my journal!

I say do whatever keeps you motivated and excited about atkins! Good luck, you're doing so good!!!!

Congrats on your 3 pound loss! I don't think I'm addicted to weigh ins, but I'm just too curious now. The last time I was on Atkins, I forced myself to wait the 2 weeks before weighing in and I was very pleasantly surprised with a 17 pound loss. Then another 5 pounds the third week. I'm hoping to do at least that again this time. I won't measure though until my 2 weeks are up and then weekly after that to see if I'm making any progress.

Anyway, don't assume you'll give up if you see a gain of a pound or two. That's just more encouragement to get it off. Challenge yourself to see how long it'll take.

Re: Confessions of a Daily weigher

I dont think I ever seen any diet plan that has said weigh-in daily. Most say once a week due to daily fluxations etc..

My opinion on that has always been slightly differing. Keeping in mind that weight and water retention to play a large factor I still have since starting this WOE weighed-in daily and logged the results to a journal.

My point of view was simply to not wait a whole week to find out something might have stalled my progress etc. I logged what I ate and what I weighed. I could see a consitent rate of progress every few days or otherwise see a problem and be able to make an adjustment to it.

This of course could all be done on a weekly basis or other set time period but I guess it was mostly personal preference.

To add a couple of side notes about me and my obsession with a scale.

              1. Yes my scale has traveled to iraq and back with me...

              2. This is a little longer but might get a little laugh

My wife and her co-workers had some type of dieting contest at her work previously and each week they stole my scale and weighed each other at work for the contest. And of course she would forget to bring it home causing me to rant and rave about my missing scale.

After serval weeks of this continuing arguement and missing scale my wife goes to work one day with her hair soaking wet and all messed up. When her co-workers asked what happened she had to tell them, I stole her hair dryer and curling iron and took it to my work.

After that they purchased there own scale.

Re: Confessions of a Daily weigher

I too am addicited to my scale. As a little gift to myself for starting the induction last week, I got a nice glass digital scale. Daily weigh ins are probably not a good thing in the long run, but I must say, stepping on that thing every morning and seeing a little less of me is a great motivator to walk to the gym and cycle at 6am.
