  • Interesting Water Facts

We all know the benefeits of water, but I wa going through a site and came across a couple that I would like to know if they are true. Anyone y'all recognise these?

1.To prevent our digestive juices from becoming diluted and weak, it is suggested to drink two (2) glasses of water one half (1/2) hour BEFORE meals. It is O.K. to sip water with meals, but not drink a lot. This also helps in weight loss.

2.Dr. Batmanghelidj suggests that we drink room temp or cool water. Cold water (with ice) shocks the stomach lining and disrupts our digestive system.

All the water early on will ease the hunger pangs, as well, and allow you to feel fuller sooner. Good reminders..thanks

I don't know if these are true or not, but my mum has been telling me the same things for the last 30 years!

Anyway, I DO tend to drink very little water during meal-times (unless the meal is oversalted) and drink heaps only a couple of hours after the meal, as well as before the meal. It works well for me whether these 2 points are true or not

Also regarding drinking water at room temperature:

do you know what the definition of "calorie" is?

A calorie is defined as "a unit of measurement defined as 4.184 absolute joules or the amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature of one gram of water from 15 to 16 degrees Celsius (or 1/100th the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water at one atmosphere pressure from 0 degrees C to 100 degrees C). Food calories are actually equal to 1,000 calories (1 food calorie = 1 kilocalorie)"

SO, wouldn't it make sense to drink cold water because that way we'd be burning calories just by drinking it?

I've always went by that mantra, I learned about that last year. I think you can lose up to 10lbs a year just by drinking cold water, without dietary changes or doing any exercising.
