  • Induction Help!

So far, for the past whole two days, Atkins has been great. I'm rather stubborn, and I've even resisted the candies guys give me at work, and my most absolute favorite dessert ever my mother made that requires a whole glass of milk with even the smallest portion. Unfortunately, I work nights, stocking groceries at Wal-Mart, and I sleep days. I have a fifteen minute break, an hour lunch, and another fifteen minute break. On all of these breaks, I am always hungry. Unfortunately, I'm very limited by time in the first and last one. In the past, I always grabbed a Snicker's bar and a cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper. Now, my ever-handy water bottle never leaves my side... and I've fallen to the Atkins morning bars to get me through those breaks. I simply don't have time for much else, and I won't have a chance to buy anything more healthy until I get paid...which is in almost another two weeks...Induction time over. Fortunately, my job is very physically strenuous, so anything I eat is worked off in no time....but I'm wondering, will eating those breakfast bars during Induction affect weight loss? I'm desperate here!

Have you ever thought of taking L-Glutimine tablets(500MG) for carb addiction? It has helped me tremendously!!! Johnny :guns Cost around $8 here.

We refer to those bars as 'frankenfoods' here and recommend that during induction you stay away from them. The first reason is that we encourage people to only eat from the acceptable food list for induction. So, if you read the label for the bar and there are things in the ingredients not on the acceptable food list (like oh..peanuts) then don't eat em. The second reason is that they are notorious for stalling people. Cost wise, you could probably get a dozen eggs for the price of one bar (or close enough). Hard boiled eggs are a great snack and perfect Atkins food. Cheese, pepperoni, olives, pickles etc are easy things to pack and grab. Ultimately it's up to you if you want to include bars and shakes etc. in your Atkins, but there are inexpensive alternatives.

Bring your snacks with you. Cut up a few stalks of celery and fill with cream cheese, then put 4-5 in sandwich bags and leave in your fridge. There is no reason you should be buying your snacks at each break. Not only is this cutting into your 15 minutes, but you're spending more $$ on each snack (induction friendly or not). If you can't prepare anything at home, arrive at work 5-10 minutes early and buy something before your shift starts. You're obviously around groceries if that's what you do! How about some string cheese, veggies & dip, ready-to-eat meats (jerky, pre-cooked chicken, some deli meats - but watch the sodium & carb counts).

Basically, if you want to succeed, you can. In the grand scheme of things, this is a tiny stumbling block. If you can't find a solution to this, you might have a tough time going forward on the WOL.

My lunches this week have consisted of me grabbing a few pieces of cauliflower, broccoli and slicing up some sausage, throwing into one container, and filling another container with blue cheese dressing for a dip.

As mentioned, eggs are a fantastic food so make sure you get a dozen or so, boil them up ..even peel them ahead of time so you can just throw them in a container with mayo, chopped pickles..mash them up and eat them with celery sticks or on slices of zucchini.

Ditch the bars..use your money to buy new clothes and eggs... :yes
