  • New girl - sort of!

Okay, so I'm new here. Looked into Atkins about a year ago, and even checked out your board then. But I never got off the ground with it. Now I am getting off the ground -- day one, my kitchen is stocked, my friends are all ready for the changes, and I'm psyched. Can't wait to get involved with your discussions, everyone here seems supportive, productive, full of good information. So here's my first little contribution, as a first-time ever dieter:

The kind of change that feels really good is the kind of change you make when you're happy with yourself to begin with, in a way. Last year I wasn't ready, I needed to diet and to lose weight in order to feel anything good about myself at all. So as soon as I hit one little bump in the road, I stopped, I felt I couldn't do it, I wasn't strong enough, etc. But these days, I've moved to a city where I'm happy, I'm studying something I love, and I'm feeling better about myself in general. I'm changing my eating habits because I know I can do better, because I know I am capable of eating healthily and (as a byproduct) of settling into a healthy weight. I know that this time I will follow through because I know that that's the kind of person I am.

What always scared me about dieting was the desperation. I've seen it my whole life with my mother, who is beautiful, healthy and slender but constantly worried about her weight and appearance. It doesn't actually matter to her that she's gorgeous, she doesn't notice, she just feels inadequate. But I think there are two types of dieting: Dieting because you feel you are not beautiful, and dieting because you feel you are. With the one you have a high level of anxiety and fear of failure, and with the other you feel at peace at the start.

That said, I can't wait to see myself in jeans without the lovehandles!

Looking forward to getting to know everybody!

Bottle that attitude and you'll make millions selling it!! That's half the battle right there.
    Welcome! :wave

I also watched family members be obsessed with dieting, exercise and their appearance, and I think I subconsciously decided I would NEVER let myself live deprived like that. I finally came to a point in my life where it was just time and I was ready.

    We need some more information!

Take a moment and go up into your Profile and in the signature line let us know your age, gender, height, start weight/current weight/goal weight, and that'll give us something to go on when you ask how you're doing.
Also, if you like, pop down into Review My Menu and read the sticky on how to post a menu and let us know what you are eating, including the times of day that you ate it and we can let you know how it looks. It can help to have that reassurance, ya know?

I look forward to seeing you progress!

Take some time to read all the stickys in the forums you go to..lots of really helpful advice and thoughts in them. :yes

Edited to add that I'm in Victoria too....if it's Victoria B.C. you're talking about!

      Thank you!

Thank you so much! Updated my profile, will add current weight when it's, er, other than the start weight! And I agree with you about the Stickies, I think everybody should read Peterlock's sticky before starting. Good for right frame of mind.

(Victoria in my profile refers to Melbourne, Australia. My new home! Just moved from the US.)

Will post my menu online, am always happy for advice!!

PS. May I add that you look fabulous!

Hey Ladybug, Welcome to ha :wave

Great to see another Aussie on these boards - don't meet them very often, but hope to see lots of interaction from you no pressure

I've from down under too and see you're located in Victoria - is that Victoria BC Canada, or Victoria Australia?

If you need another Aussie to chat to, feel free to drop a line

              cheers.

welcome bug! I never considered Atkins a diet. I'm eating more healthy food on a regular basis than I ever did on a diet. Eat and be free.

You are exactly right, "dieting" is a limiting word. Thanks you guys!
