  • Something funny i "cooked" up

Well today I got creative and thought i would make pork chops. Well, I didn't really have a recipe that didn't involve carbs, so i put the pork chops, broccoli, cauliflower, and chicken broth in a baking dish, covered it with foil and let it bake. When it was done I thought, WOW, i can't get used to having such thin gravy (since i no longer use cornstarch)....so I had this ingenious plan. I took out the cauliflower and put it in the blender together with some of the chicken broth, butter, worcestershire, and pepper. I thought that the cauliflower would be a good way to thicken the sauce. Well, I blended away, all excited. When it was ready i opened it and it looked gross! I tasted it and i gagged. It was seriously like fear factor. That was the worst idea ever! I poured it down the drain, and we ate our pork chops with butter on top and broccoli and a garden salad. I won't be getting creative with the blender again! Well, with those ingredients anyway. Ugh...i could gag right now.

On a side note my broccoli was great because it was steamed in broth instead of water. Too good in fact, my kitten jumped on the table and stole a peice of broccoli right off my plate before i coud react. I grabbed him and gave him a gentle shake to make him let go of it, and he wouldn't, he started doing that scarfing motion to make the food go in his mouth, then he growled at me for trying to take it away. At least i have validation that it was good.

:laughing The kitten scarfing broccoli! Oh my god, that's funny. I had a similar experience with broccoli a few weeks ago. I sauteed it in butter and was like OH MY GOD THIS IS GOOD! My husband stole a piece and I had to chase him down and shake him, but he growled at me so I backed off.

Cauliflower is a weird veggie. It's either really good, or it tastes nasty. My mother used to steam it in the microwave and it smelled like dirty diapers, so I never liked it. Now I make it in a casserole with sour cream, cheese, scallions and bacon, and it's Deee-Lish!

A really easy quick way to thicken up to make a sauce is to add some sour cream to your pan liquids and cook it down a little...mmmm!!

I got that idea from this recipe, which we absolutely LOVE. We almost lick the frying pan clean when I make this. I use chicken more often than I use pork, and I use chops more often than I use tenderloin..it's just all so good.

If you're going to do a blender gravy, cook it with a combo of onions and celery. Or if you want to cook other veggies at the same time, put the onions and celery in one corner of the dish. Then, when the dish is cooked, remove the onions and celery and blend it with whatever pan dripping/cooking juices are in the pan.
