Well I'd like to say that OBVIOUSLY is not the case in this post...the OP already mentioned she had a serious autoimmune condition, and I see no point in pointing out over and over again how exercise is SO much better and so on and so forth...WE ALL know that exercise is better than not exercising...I mean come on that's a no brainer...but can't we give her some hope? IT IS possible to lose weight without exercising. And Fight, if you'd rather be a fat fat person than a skinny fat person...well that's absolutely silly...honestly. Look at Jared from Subway, he certainly looks tons better as a skinny jared than a fat jared..but he does have loose skin...I just think some of you are acting really judgemental and negative in this post when all someone wants is some hope.

Unable to Exercise...Will Atkins still work?

Now now, let's try to keep this respectful. As everybody knows, we give advice 'by the book' here at
ha We also know that if you're not exercising, you're not doing Atkins. That is the bottom line. Not2late said it best, you determine your level of activity. Perhaps it's going up two stairs once a day. Perhaps it's doing curls with a can of tomatoes. Perhaps it's going for a swim. Perhaps it's running. Perhaps it's trying to touch your toes. It really doesn't matter what you do but that you try to do something.

I was in no way trying to be disrespectful, I am just kind of freaked out by the attitude some of you people have and the approach you take...I wonder sometimes if some of you haven't scared more people away from atkins than help them through it....Like say someone makes a post about eating jello...watch out, there will be at least 10 replies with tons of criticisms in them, and people acting like they are perfect and never screw up...well maybe you don't screw up, but some people do, and ITS OK...doesn't make them any less on the diet than you are. There is nothing wrong with following the book to a T, but don't discourage and put down those who physically cannot do that is what I'm saying. I just feel a lot of you are disrespectful and hurtful with some replies I've seen you post about peoples mistakes, or inabilities. We should be uplifting people, not bringing them down. I do understand tough love, but not every single case deserves that in my opinion. If someone is trying as hard as they can, they don't need any tough love, they need encouragement.~*~Clare~*~

I too agree with Breakfast.. Some replies turn very ugly, and honestly at one point, I didnt want to come back on this board because of it. :sadblinky I actually happened in a post I made, where eating cashews turned ugly, and it upset me. It almost made me feel where, if I thought I had made a mistake just keep it to myself rather then be ridiculed.
Yes changing your WOL should be taken very seriously, but when someone is looking for help, :sympathy everyone needs to be supportive because you wouldnt like it done to you.
On the other hand, there is tons of great feedback, positivity, and LOVE on this board, and as long as we have that we can all succeed, just gotta work on the bumps a lil bit :hug :ThumbsUp

I don't think the advice given is meant to portray ourselves as "perfect". It's meant to be honest and straightforward.
The original poster asked a question about exercise and her inability to do exercise due to her medical conditions and was given honest answers/advice to her specific situation. She, and others in her situation, should exercise to her level. And she should really discuss this with her physician because she could probably be enrolled in a physicial therapy program. In fact, it would be ideal for her to be envolved in some sort of physicial therapy program because they would be able to tailor an activity program specifically for her.
Like I wrote in my other post, too many of us believe that "exercise" means you're wearing spandex and running on a treadmill in a trendy gym or you're entangled in some ferious looking piece of gym equipment. That's a huge turn off if you are out of shape. We sometimes forget that things like walking the dog or playing frisbee with the kids count as exercise. I workout my abs every night when I watch tv. I do it by sitting on a balance ball. That's right, just sitting and balancing on a balance ball works out your abs. If you sit and bounce on the ball, you work out your abs, thighs, calves and butt.
When it comes to exercise, you do what you are physicially capable of doing. And if you have any kind of physicial disability, you really ought to consult your physician before beginning a program.

Ok I'm sorry I really honestly didn't mean to make this post turn ugly...and I know most of you have perfectly good intentions in what you are saying, and you are right about it, though the approach sometimes bothers some of us. Physical Therapy is a GREAT idea...though a little expensive, I believe it would really be a good thing for Daniela, to make her mind and body stronger.~*~Clare~*~

You know why? Because the rules say don't do it. We follow the rules, plain and simple, we give constructive criticisim so people can lose the most weight the healthiest ways. Its usally people that want to do their own version, are the ones who come back later with stalls and metabolic resistance accusations, then do something drastic like carb load..Like say someone makes a post about eating jello...watch out, there will be at least 10 replies with tons of criticisms in them, and people acting like they are perfect and never screw up..
We are not perfect, but we like to strive for perfection. It makes you a stronger person, and the results are the best.
I don't remember putting anyone down, or anyone else doing it for that matter. We all gave advice. There is nothing wrong with following the book to a T, but don't discourage and put down those who physically cannot do that is what I'm saying.
Oh yeah? silly eh?. Being a fat person you do have a good deal of strength. Now, you lose all that weight, most of it alot of muscle. Now you are weak and have lose skin...I don't see anything silly about not wanting to do that. beacause you are going to have to work twice as hard getting strength and definition back. And Fight, if you'd rather be a fat fat person than a skinny fat person...well that's absolutely silly..

Swimming is perfect!! 0 impact, low gravitation factor and it not only in cardio but strength training all in one! Yes you can lose weight on this WOE without exercise, but as my personal trainer says. You can lose weight without exercise but unless you exercise your body will not change it's shape. So if you are apple shaped you will not get a waistline and if you are pear shaped your hips will never slim down.
Plus exercise is good for you plain and simple.
I definitely recommend discussing exercise with your doctor. I am assuming you have insurance and insurance would definitely pay for a physical therapist. I wish you the best of luck.

Swimming
Try swimming....It is easy on the joints. I have almost NO KNEE JOINTS and I can still swim. Moving around or just dog paddling will make you feel good and like you are doing something pro-active.

Drsbaitso.....you'r enever too young...I'm 27, having had rhuematoid arthiritis for 8 years. And I find this diet has been helping. I have always noticed, even before this diet, that I had a major flarup after consuming too much carbs. And when I concentrated on fattier foods and less carbs, my flareups diminshed. Sounds wacky, but over time that's what I noticed. SO for that reason alone if anything I'm happy about Atkin's WOE.
I will say that I can predeict the weather which sounds so goofy, so old timer-ish, but honest to god, i can tell my husband when its going to rain. I wish there would be a study done on that, it's true.5' 5.5"
