  • Craving some cereal

    Hi everyone

I'm craving some cereal right now and I heard that I can use

    2 tbl flaxmeal
    water
    1 tsp splenda
    cinnamon

Now I really want to do this induction in the "cleanist" way possible. Is this ok for me to eat? The carb(4) contents and fiber(4) equal eachother out so basically there are "0" carbs. And is this cereal even good?

    THanks

I suppose you are using Bob's Redmill Flax meal right? Well, due to the labelling laws for carbs in the US, that flaxmeal is NOT 0 net carbs as the package will have you believe. It's more like 1 net carb (0.7 to be exact) per serving.

During Induction, you can use flaxmeal, wheat bran and psyllium husks as a daily fiber supplements OR to relieve constipation. However the dose for a daily fiber supplement is 1 tablespoon. The dose for constipation relief begins with one tablespoon and then is increased or decreased until that constipation is relieved.

As for flaxmeal itself, some people like it. Others find it too slimy. While it's touted as a "miracle food", it's not without its dangers. Click the link in my siggy. That will lead you to my personal website. I have a section devoted to Flax in it among other things. Best to make an informed decision about foods, imo.

      Hi Megs!

Thanks for your reply! Yes I am using Bob's Redmill Flaxseed meal!!! I take it that's a popular one? lol...

Well I went to your wonderful website (I think I might go back for other info that intrigued me) and I read about the cyanide (sp?) pretty scary stuff! So you were saying if I do use it I can only use 1TBL of it right?

      Thanks again

If you're using it for a daily fiber supplement during Induction, 1 tablespoon is the amount Dr. Atkins quoted. His preference was for psyllium husk for fiber and constipation relief.

When I was doing Induction, I had to use a daily fiber supplement to help keep regular, but as soon as I moved onto OWL, I didn't need the fiber supplement. Now I have a cupboard with a half-empty bottle of psyllium and I have a half empty bag of flaxmeal in my freezer.

There is an "induction friendly" hot cereal substitute that uses wheat bran. It looks and tastes oatmeal than flaxmeal ever could, imo. I have a link to that recipe on my website, but here it is if you can't find it there.
