  • Help with Induction

    Hi everyone!
This is my second day on atkins.
I was going through some of the recipies on atkins website. Some of the recipies for the induction phase have ingredients that I feel are not okay for induction. For example, this morning I had a breakfast burrito with a low carb tortilla.

Is it okay to have low carb tortilla for breakfast?
Also can I have Jack cheese during induction?

Can I have Jello with whip cream?

    Please help!!
    Thanks

    Welcome to ha

First, the low-carb tortillas are a definite no-no. :nono You really shouldn't be having these until the later stages of OWL or pre-maintenance.

Jack cheese is ok :yes , but just be conscious of the 3-4 oz. limit per day.

I would advise against the jello & whip cream. The jello, even if it's sugar free, probably contains aspartame/nutrasweet which is not allowed. The only whipped cream that is allowed is the kind you make yourself with heavy cream and splenda (again, watch your cream limits and your sweetener limit!) The reason I'd stay away from this is because Induction is the time to break away from your addictions. Instead of replacing foods, just try to eliminate them. Your body will thank you 2 weeks from now.

We give advice based on the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. This is the last edition Dr. Atkins wrote prior to his death. Atkins Nutritionals was later sold and it is the opinion of many of us that profit is their motivation (the marketing of their products like bars, shakes, tortillas etc) and that they are swaying away from Dr. Atkins plan. I know, it's very confusing and there is conflicting information. You WILL be successful if you eat only from the acceptable food list for induction. Therefore, don't eat the tortilla. Keep the acceptable food list with you and read labels of everything you want to put into your mouth. If there is something on the label not on the list, don't eat it.
Jack cheese is okay for induction. Do not go over your daily limit. Whipped cream is okay if it has no sugar. Again read the label. Where I am, there is no whipped cream product in a can that I would eat. Make your own! And if you haven't gotten it already, get yourself a copy of the book. It will be your best resource!
