  • turnips for chips?

Has anyone tried slicing these thin and frying them like potatoes for chips?

Not like that, but I make turnip 'fries' all the time. In fact, they're my favourite! I bet they'd be great that way too.

We love the turnip 'fries' too...I cut them into fries, coat them in oil and lay them on a foil-lined baking sheet, and bake till done...AWESOME!

Yes - turnips are on the one-cup list along with all these veggies
artichoke, celery root, pumpkin, artichoke hearts, rhubarb, asparagus, chard, sauerkraut, bamboo shoots, collard greens, scallions, dandelion, snow peas, dandelion greens, spaghetti squash, beet greens, eggplant, spinach (it is however generally accepted spinach should be a 2-3 cup veggie), broccoli, hearts of palm, string or wax beans, broccoli rabe, kale, summer squash, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi, tomato, bean sprouts, leeks, turnips, cabbage, okra, water chestnuts, cauliflower, onion, zucchini
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I am getting ready to make turnip hashbrowns now. Late breakfast this morning. I hope I like them, I tried the cauliflower recipe that was supposed to taste like a stuffed baked potato and about gagged the other night ensive so I am hoping for better results this time.

You know, I've had most veggies on the lists and enjoyed them but I've never tried something as simple as turnips. Do they have a radish taste?

I made the turnip brown and they weren't bad. The first batch I burnt to black because I was trying to get the crispy (very unsuccessful..they were just black soggy mush) Second time I cooked them until they were browning and took them out. The sogginess wasn't great but they had a little crunch to them when chewing and once I put over-easy eggs on top and broke the yoke over them, mixed it together, it was almost like the real thing. The taste was very similar I think the only thing that stopped this from being a total success was my mind telling me I was eating turnips the whole time LOL
I used to be absolutely anti-vegtable, you name it I hated it....I'm worked super hard on that one!

Good for you on the veggie thing. Really, that is big accomplishment and you're a great role model for the many posters we get who don't like veggies. :yes

The best Induction veggie for making chips is celery root, which is also called celeriac. If you do a search for celery root or celeriac, you'll find the recipe I posted for making the chips/fries.

Fresh pumpkin does well for chipping too.

                          Megs,

I did find your post, that is what inspired me to go celeric shopping, but with no success. I am going to look some more for one though. Thanks.

in case you aren't sure this is what celeriac looks like

I tried the turnip-browns...but they came out really mushy. With a little butter and salt they tasted fine, but what is the best way to make them????
