  • Fast Food Induction Question

I was looking at some fast food foods cause Im getting bored of being on induction and only eating the bland foods that I know how to make. I saw taco bell has a chili cheese burrito which I think it actually pretty good. Without the shell it gave me these nutrition facts :

    85 grams of serving weight
    170 calories
    13 grams of total fat
    7 grams of saturated fat
    40 mg cholesterol
    530 mg sodium
    4 grams of carbs
    2 grams of dietary fiber
    0 grams of sugar
    10 grams of protein

Does this mean that for one of these Im only eating 2 grams of bad carbs. Also does this mean I can eat some of these. For the ingredients the only things listed are cheddar cheese and chili. Also Im a little confused about the diet. If I can find foods that are not on the acceptable list that are really low in carbs like a gram or two can I still eat them. Also it says that you can eat up to 3 cups of salad a day and stuff but if I dont eat carbs anywhere else can I eat more salad just as long as the total carbs from the day, and in this case theyre all from salad, doesnt exceed 20 grams. Also I see that at Wendys eating a burger, cheese, and bacon will only give you 1 gram of carbs. Is it safe to say that I can eat almost as much of this as I want. Are bunless burgers safe to eat on induction. Also how much ketchup can I eat as I really like ketchup and I feel that eating it can help me alot on Atkins.

While on Induction, you can eat up to 20 grams of carbs per day. You don't need to eat the full 20. I stayed at about 8-13g each day on Induction, and then when I went to OWL, I bumped it up to 18g by eating more veggies. You can only eat the Induction acceptable foods, even if the carb counts are low. The program was written so you "detox" your body and then slowly add things back in.

If you find you're already getting bored with foods, you definitely want to think about moving to OWL after your 14 days are up.

And on the fast food, I would say it's ok occasionally, but the sodium counts are outrageous and this alone can cause people to stall. I also don't trust most fast food establishments. I think McDonald's adds sugar to their burgers, for example, so I'd stay away unless I was trapped in a strip mall with no other alternative.

Sorry, I have more to add.

Bunless burgers are great if you make them yourself (see my previous post). Ketchup is a no-no :nono because it's loaded with sugar. There are some low-carb versions of it out there, but I haven't tried any. If you can find this, I think it's ok for induction. (Mods: is this right?)

Yes, there are low carb versions of ketchup out there. I don't mind the Atkins Ketchatomato, but of course you need to count the carbs, and if there is sweetener in it, it counts towards your sweetener limit for the day.

I would avoid it for the first two weeks, and then add it in, just for the sake of having as clean an Induction as possible.

          Mc'Donalds Double Cheese plain/no bun/served on a plate

I have been doing the McDonald's double cheeseburger for my lunches & have been getting good results and feeling satisfied.

My friend who introduced me to Atkins swore by eating them. He would get them pre-made and dissassemble. I was doing the same - I'd take off the bun - wipe of the burger and break up the buns & throw them out to the birdies in the parking lot.

After many days of this ritual - the drive-thru gal informed me that she saw me tossing the bun and said that I could order it made that way - which was great. Now - for .99 cents - I get my two burgers on a piece of lettuce - on a plastic plate with a lid - and they give you the fork & knife that is supposed to be used for the yogurt fruit cup (which I think is an evil concoction.) So - that is my lunch - sometimes 1 double cheese, sometimes two - depends on the day - and whattadeal! I am taking it easy on the scale - so I don't know how much I have lost total, but I have lost 3 1/2 inches off my waist and my face is not nearly as puffy as it was a month ago.

Carb Options makes fantastic ketchup..tastes just like regular. I think in the States Heinz has one as well? Stay away from regular ketchup.

I personally try to avoid fast food restaurants as much as possible. Like Effie also said the sodium is very high in fast food, and I also don't trust them.

However that said, when I have had no choice but to have fast food, I usually stick with a salad. Wendy's BLT salad is really good, and their caesar dressing only has 1g of carbs. McD's Newmans own caesar dressing has 3net carbs and I really like their bacon ranch salad with chicken. I usually try to use half the packet of the dressings as you get alot, as well as only eat half the lettuce. They give you alot of lettuce.

I probably eat at fast food restaurants 5x a year at most, I'd rather make my own lunch and know exactly what i'm getting!

for nutritional values I find the canadian sites to be really detailed ( i think they have to provide all the details by Cdn. law) www.mcdonalds.ca and www.wendys.ca. Though they may not have all of the same menu items as the states but should have most.

When I recently travelled to Florida I had a low carb burger at Hardees and thought it was fantastic!
