  • Eggs - How many is too much?

Hi gang, I've found that I have been eating several eggs almost every day. My question is - how much is too much? Can eating them for 2 meals a day be bad for me?

I guess I have had the idea of "eggs are bad" pounded into my head for so many years, I'm afriad that I may be doing harm by eating this way.

Can anyone share their experience on the incredible, edible egg?

    Thanks so much! Luna

Now..what I've heard, and what I've been telling folks is that the limit is five eggs a day, so you could have them for two meals.

If anyone has proof that it's something other than that, please let me know!

5 a day sounds good to me

Yup - that's what I've been doing -2 for breakfast - and 2 or 3 for dinner. I like the eggies because there are so many different ways to make 'em - plus - they are cheap!

I didn't do the pre-Atkins blood tests - and I just had a physical - and my doc wants to send me. From what I've read and heard so far - that eggs are good and will not raise cholesterol levels - but I do have those old fears from years of hearing eggs=bad.

Thanks for your advise - I appreciate it.

The one thing about having the 'same' meal a lot is that boredom can set in...and remember that you get different nutrients from different foods, so do try and switch it up a bit. :yes

Only 5 eggs a day??? Where does this info come from? On DANDR he says to eat liberally, though I just add up my egg counts. I eat eggs for breakfast, sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner, and often as a snack. Some days I only eat two or three, some days I have around 10 (maybe more).

I buy egg beaters egg whites and add some to the egg I'm cooking .....that way there is more food but less carbs than eating 3 or 4 eggs in a sitting....egg whites are also a good way to add more protein into your diet.

I don't know where the five eggs info came from, but that's what I've heard again and again since joining here over a year ago. Hopefully someone will be able to jump in with the source, or have a source that can amend the number.

And I'll repeat what I said to Luna about how you get different nutrients from different foods, so do try and switch it up a bit. Eggs are good, but so is tuna, salmon, ground turkey...lots of protein sources out there! :yummy

But remember this is not a 'high protein' WOE, Allie. Maybe you could check at www.fitday.com from time to time to make sure you are still within the 65%/30%/5% ratios of fat/protein/carbs. :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

There is much you can make out of eggs! I love it - I could eat up to 8 in a day although I don't do this everyday. In one day I could eat eggs like so:

Microwaved 2-egg omelette with bit of butter & skinless sausages (0.25g each) for brekkie
2 hard-boiled eggs as snacks during the day, with aioli
4-egg chinese-style omelette with assortment of veggies, garlic, chilli, sesame oil for dinner :yummy

This sort of eating doesn't happen everyday. Personally I can keep all my fats/carbs/protein % right in a day and 8 eggs won't be a problem for me. But I have heard others stall if they eat more than 1-2 eggs per day

By cutting egg whites you are falling into that "fat trap". All the vitamins and good cholesterol is in the yoke. EAT THE ENTIRE EGG.

The only limitations you have is that you count them as one carb, and you do not stop you from getting other foods in your diet such as veggies.

Me personally, for extened induction, I eat about 7-9 a day,
