Generally if someone says "I am not willing to give *this item* up" they are given the same advice: to think about why they are unwilling to change.
In this case unfortunately there are connotations assocciated with alcohol that aren't really there when a person is talking about sweets or bread or whatever.

Sorry if you felt attacked, but the grass roots of this is that changes need to be made if a person wants to get the best results possible, and that's why we're here, to help people achieve this, and to perhaps give them a different way of looking at things.

So much change is involved when doing Atkins, and it can seem overwhelming at first. Being young, and having an active social life that includes alcohol, it can seem stifling to have to say no.

The other danger with alcohol, especially in the beginning when a person is still learning about the Rules of Induction and getting familiar with the Acceptable Foods list is that alcohol reduces inhibitions, and a person isn't able to make the best choices sometimes when they've had a few drinks when it comes to choosing what to eat or snack on at the party or after the bar closes.

The most extreme story I heard was a member saying she woke up with empty Frito bags around her.

It's up to you though, you've got the facts now. :yes

Sorry Moochie, but this just struck me as soooo funny! To think of all of the bad things that can happen to you when you're intoxicated, this one would have never crossed my mind! :yikes LOL!

I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from Kelly and I was pretty much the same way. For some reason, if everyone else is having a widly good, intoxicated time, and I am not I feel bored. I avoided going to parties but then found out that as long as I have a cup in my hand, just like everyone else (even if mine is filled with water), then I hardly notice. I usually go to bars and parties for the people, the booze is always a nice plus though. I try to kind of mentally trick myself into thinking I'm not drinking water, and I definitely like not coming home and puking out my window. Even though other might harp on me for saying this, the first time I did Atkins, I lost about 15 lbs in my 1st two weeks of induction and after those initial weeks, I ate under 20g carbs a day and I drank a few times (Stoli Raz and club soda or diet tonic water) and I still lost. I just got to the point where I didn;t feel like I was serious about it and I stopped Atkins all together. This time around I have done a clean induction....almost. I tripped up once and drank at a party (again stoli raz + club) and I am still losing....so if you are really serious about losing you few lbs, then do induction, try it with drinking and if it doesn;t work, you know what you have to do.....
