Generally if someone says "I am not willing to give *this item* up" they are given the same advice: to think about why they are unwilling to change.
In this case unfortunately there are connotations assocciated with alcohol that aren't really there when a person is talking about sweets or bread or whatever.
Sorry if you felt attacked, but the grass roots of this is that changes need to be made if a person wants to get the best results possible, and that's why we're here, to help people achieve this, and to perhaps give them a different way of looking at things.
So much change is involved when doing Atkins, and it can seem overwhelming at first. Being young, and having an active social life that includes alcohol, it can seem stifling to have to say no.
The other danger with alcohol, especially in the beginning when a person is still learning about the Rules of Induction and getting familiar with the Acceptable Foods list is that alcohol reduces inhibitions, and a person isn't able to make the best choices sometimes when they've had a few drinks when it comes to choosing what to eat or snack on at the party or after the bar closes.
The most extreme story I heard was a member saying she woke up with empty Frito bags around her.
