  • I NEED Something Sweet.

I know Atkins works. I started it to lose weight before going on my trip to Florida and to date have lost about 35 pounds. Kudos.

I'm currently on day 4 of induction and NEED something sweet (I kinda cheated and had one Entenmann's chocolate chip cookie, it was a small one). Do I need to start over?

Before you suggest cheese, meat or anything of that nature, please understand......I NEED SWEET...ANYTHING..

HELP!!!!!! Dont wanna fall off and have to start over.

You may still be in ketosis... but if *I* were *you* then I would start over the 2 weeks... but it's up to you.

What I eat is 100% pumpkin mix from a can. Make sure the ingredient in it is ONLY pumpkin!...otherwise it will have sugar in it. About 1/4 cup is 2 net carbs. Then I add a pinch of ginger, a sprinkling of ground clove, and a pretty big dash of cinnamon. Cinnamon does have carbs as well... so if you use maybe a whole teaspoon of it then that would be about 0.6 net carbs I believe. Add a half packet of Splenda and mix everything up.

Then for the whipped cream! get some HEAVY whipping cream from a carton, measure out 2 tablespoons. Add 1.5 packets of Splenda and beat with beaters. Stop about maybe 15 seconds to check it. It doesn't take long to make whipped cream. If you overbeat, it turns to butter and not as good. Whipping cream is 0.8 carbs per tablespoon.

    So
    2 Carbs Pumpkin+
    0.6 Carbs Cinnamon+
    1.6 Carbs whipping cream+
    1.5 Carbs Splenda
=5.7 carbs total. Make sure to count these for you daily under 20 net carbs

I don't really count the ginger and clove cause I barely put any in but you can if you want.

Sorry I forgot to say it will be like a pumpkin pudding. Just stick the whipped cream on top of the pumpkin and enjoy.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think pumpkin is a no-no on Induction. I don't have my book handy. I could easily be wrong though...happens all the time. When I crave something sweet I make a flax bun and put some cream cheese mixed with splenda and sugar free french vanilla syrup on top. Filling and feeds the sweet monster.

That's cool. What the heck is mâche? And Enchanted, I would've believed you if you had said "You're wrong!" I don't get snippy or anything if I'm not right about something. (unless if I'm arguing with the husband...j/k) but it's always good to review the lists.

Oh I thought I'd just let you see it.

Did some looking and turns out mache is a salad green! According to this site anyway... http://www.foodsubs.com/Greensld.html It's amazing how much stuff I learn just from this WOL.

edited to add: sorry for the thread drift! I'm horrible at doing that.

I am not sure if this is allowed on induction---but when i think i might cheat i buy fat-free-sugar-free pudding and instead of two cold cups of milk i put in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and 1 cup of cold water--its delicious and its better than falling off and cheating----1/2 cup has 4-6 carbs. Also sugar free jello is always an option with whipped cream on top. Jello has only a carb per serving I think!

if you HAVE to have something sweet, that is an option, but it does have aspartame...which doesnt slow everyone down, but be careful

There are ingredients in the pudding that are not Induction-friendly, so stay away from it.
And yes, Dr. Atkins advises us to avoid the use of aspartame.

I would encourage everyone to face the sugar monkey and get it off their back.
I'm the person who used to say "I need to have chocolate in the house or I get anxious!!" and it made perfect logical sense to me to say that. I realized thru Atkins how dependant I was on my sweet treats...how I really thought that they were essential to my well-being. Turns out they aren't, after all...lol and I can certainly live without them.

Having said that, you can always take a tsp of cream cheese and sprinkle it with splenda for a little cheesecakey mouthful.
Or mix cocoa with splenda and cream cheese, put it on wax paper in 'blobs' and freeze it for little frozen treats.

But do try and get over this attachment to sweets...you really and truly will thank yourself for it. I know I sure have.
I mean, I used to focus more on the birthday cake than the person having the birthday. I would wish my company would leave so I could dig into the leftover dessert. I would get really upset if I didnt have a treat in the house when I came home after a good/bad/didn't even matter what kind of day.

                      Anyway...that's my 2 cents x 10...lol

I think they make low carb ice cream treats with splenda...I know they have 1 carb fudgesicles made with splenda. Might work in an emergency if you are really craving something sweet.

I am in day 2 of induction and am working all my cravings out of my body...but when I did low cal, I read some advice that works: when you have a craving, drink a glass of water. I know with me some foods can leave a taste in the back of your mouth that sets off cravings....drinking a lot of water washes those cravings away.

I hear ya on the sweet....

one reason I've not lost faster.... and something i don't talk about tooo much to the powers that be that don't understand... lol...

                          anyway...

yeah.... my sweet treats are the infamouse YOGURT I posted about while still in induction.. (blue bunny.... 5 carbs in 6 oz. and it's GOOD... way better than Dannon... especially the vanilla).

and sometimes I have a mint Atkins crisp bar thing.. (4 carbs)....

                          and peanuts....
(why peanuts???? who knows??? they're not even sweet)
                          so shoot me

now I kNOW these aren't the best thing for all those who are so much more accomplished at this thing than I am.... but I have to live with it.. ... 24/7....

so.. my 'treats' are better than chucking te whole thing imo.......

as for your question... I doubt ONE cookie blew it.... if it did... then it won't be long until you're back on track!!

                          :yes

You have been given some good suggestions already.
My advice would have been the same as Moochiecat's - don't feed that sugar monster!! If you can find the strength to starve him he will go away :yes
One thing we have to try and get over is thinking we NEED any non-Atkins food. I found if I instead said to myself - I WANT that . . . . (insert your own craving here) it was easier to then say but I am not going to eat it today.

Try to find another 'legal' food you like and eat that instead of the no-no item. I found mixing some chopped celery with mayonnaise and a few small cherry tomatoes worked for me. I would have some of that in the fridge and eat a few spoonfuls of that when the cravings got bad.

Btw - did your overwhelming 'need' for sweet stuff come upon you after you ate the chocolate chip cookie? Eating 'just that one' sugary cookie might be what has created your cravings.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
