  • Eating Late at Night

I know that a lot of "other" eating plans and conventional wisdom often discourage eating late at night. I don't remember seeing anything in DANDR about not eating late at night though.

Let's say it's 11pm and I'm feeling really hungry. Is it safe to make steak or a chicken breast and eat it that late?

If you're hungry ... eat! But remember to only eat until satisfied.

Exactly if you are hungry, eat. There were many nights that work or exercise delayed dinner until much later in the evening. It is much better to eat in a planned dinner or snack than to overeat later or have the hunger gnawing at you feeling deprived.

        Everyone is different

I am one person where eating late at night definitely helped me put the pounds on.

Even on Atkins, if I eat too late ie just before bed-time, I wake up feeling full, bloated, like I had only just eaten.

However, as everyone else says, if you're hungry, then eat. What happens if you eat at 5pm, but don't get to bed till midnight or 1am? DANDR says you're supposed to eat at least every 6 waking hours. that means if you last ate at 5pm, then you ought to be eating again at 11pm if you're going to be awake for longer - otherwise go to bed - you'll survive to be hungry for breakfast, and you don't use as much energy during sleep anyway
