  • Not much to lose...

I have been browsing these threads for the past few days and finally decided to create a login. I am amazed by the amount of weight lost in this community! The thing is, I am 20 years old, and only mildy overweight. I do realize that the majority of successful weightloss comes from individuals who were at one point obese... and I also realize that the heavier you are, the quicker the weight comes off (NO FAIR!) I am not here to insult in any way, just looking for someone in the same boat, as well as some pointers.

I have been successful on reducing carbs in the past (dropping about 20lbs) mainly through logic... I was in my mid teens and didnt know much about atkins.

If there is anyone with similar stats I would LOVE some input. I am looking to lose atleast 25lbs by the end of the summer, and hopefully be at around 95lbs when it's all said and done.

    Kelly- age 20
    4'11
    current - 127
    highest weight- 136
    lowest weight- 115
goal weight - short term 100
    long term 95

I know with confidence and patience I can achieve my goal. I know it will be hard, but I can do it! I just don't want to WAIT! I get so jealous when I see 30lb weightlosses in a months time.

From my personal experience once you have lost the amount of weight your body should lose the weight becomes very very difficult to get rid of. For example I am 5'2 and my healthy weight is 130. In high school I wanted so bad to weigh 120 pounds but even when I starved myself (had anorexia) I could not lose the weight. The lowest I got to was 125 but maintaining it was impossible not to mention how unhealthy I was. So I am not sure what your situation is but this may be the case.

Hi I'm 26 and I have 15 lbs to lose to reach GOAL! I've heard many times that when there is little weight to lose, then you have to put MORE effort to it. Well I did! I added CARDIO and sit-ups to my plan and it is working for me!

        Re: Not much to lose...

        Hi Kelly,

I've got approx 17lbs left to lose (although if I lose more that would be a plus) I've been 120lbs only a few years ago so that's what I'm aiming. I will still be in the healthy BMI range.

At the moment Kel, I'm losing real slow, and I was on Induction for 4 months before I moved onto OWL. Now, I'm still looking for ideas on how to move on from the first rung, because I'm still puzzled about that.

Although I'm losing slowly, the inches are coming off - I manage to just fit into pre-fatdays clothes - size 12s for me (Australian), and I'm aiming to get into size 10s or even 8s.

Do you know at the age of 20, it is generally easier for you to take the weight off than many of us? You're at the stage too where the puppy fat is coming off.

Ok, I'm a little taller than you and have a higher GW than you, but we have similar # of lbs left to lose.
Kelly, my 2-bit is to get through Induction, follow Atkins as best as you can. If you give into temptation, learn from it, and move on. If the scales aren't moving, DON'T LOOK at them, look at INCHES LOST. Exercise and have LOTS OF PATIENCE.

Anyhow, PM me if you want another buddy along your Atkins journey - you can't have too many of them!

        Cheers

          Hi Kelly, :wave

I am 5'3 and started Atkins in 2002 (January) at 133 pounds. I am VERY TINY, so although 133 doesn't *sound* overweight, on my frame, it definitely was. I was sluggish, had back pain, knee pain, etc., from many years as a bonafide couch potato.

When I first started, my goal was to lose 15 pounds (goal was 117). Well, I started and lost about 7 pounds on induction, so decided to keep going. I was sticking to the proper ratios of 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs and following the plan to the letter. By 5 months, I had lost 17 pounds. I exercised EVERYDAY, walking 1-2 miles a day and doing isometrics at home and some mild weight training (dumbbells).

By 8 months, I had lost about 20 pounds and was down to 113. I progressed through OWL and hit 27 pounds lost by December of that year. So yes, the weight came off slow, but steady. I wasn't about to give up on Atkins because I felt so GREAT and looked great too. I went from wearing a size 12 in missy clothes to a size 4 in juniors.

In November 2003, I started jogging. At first, I couldn't do but 1/2 mile without gasping .. but you know what .. I have kept at it, slowly increasing my miles and now I am up to running 35+ miles a week!! Also, I eat VERY WELL, do not cheat and still follow Atkins Lifetime Maintenace plan. My current weight is 95 and I've never felt better, looked better and felt stronger in my life. I will be 50 years old in 6 months and nobody can believe I am that old!

So yes, it CAN be done! If this reformed couch potato carb queen can do it, ANYONE CAN!! Be persistent and never give up or give in!! YOU CAN DO IT!
