  • DANDR 1992 vs. 2002

Hi, I just looked at my DANDR and the copyright is 1992. How is this different from the 2002 one I am hearing about?

    Kelly
I will stay on my diet. I will get healthy and lose weight. There is nothing I could eat or drink that tastes as good as how I feel at this moment on this WOE ~ nothing!

I am not sure about specific differences. I think that I had one printed later than that because the first time I did Atkins was in like 1999. And I remember that back then exercise was an option and not a requirement. I think that there's more of an emphasis on eating vegetables now.

Sorry that I can't be of more help. The main reason that I went and bought the 2002 edition is because all of the advice that is given by this board is based on that edition of Dr. Atkins book.

So, perhaps one of the experts will be around shortly and give you their take on your question.

    Have a good day! :wave

      Hi. Here's a breakdown...

      1992 Book
      1. Counts total carbs.
      2. Vegetable amounts were the 2/3 cup cooked for the "Other" veg. However, vegetables were limited to 3 cups daily.
      3. No lunch meats with nitrates or added sugars are allowed.
      4. No limitations on the amounts or kinds of cheese.
      5. Nuts were allowed during the first 14 days of Induction.

If I am not mistaken the 1992 was updated in 1997 and some things were changed. I have that version and the 2002 version. the 2002 has added alot more stuff regarding health all together.

By 1997, aspartame was removed from the sweetener list and sucralose was added. The company began promoting the bars, shakes and bake mix by that time too, so they are mentioned.

Well, sorta no and sorta yes. In the original diet (1972), Dr. Atkins adviced to increase carbs and foods in a stepwise fashion. In the 1992 book, there was a list of OWL foods in 4-6 carbs serving sizes. Though the foods were listed like the current OWL rungs, there really wasn't any guidance on adding them back into your diet in any particular order.
