  • How bad is bad??

I went away on business the other day and because of the food I ate I'm worried that I have completely messed up my induction and don't know if I'm still in ketosis.

I haven't got around to reading the Atkins section on eating out so was a little unprepared

Basically I went away on Monday night, I had a pub dinner, due to the choice of food available I ended up having a mixed grill and a salad, I didn't touch the chips. I didn't think I was doing to badly, but earlier on in the day I had to stop for a snack as I was quite tired, and needed a break, I basically grabbed the only thing I could find with the lowest carb content, I think it was about 5g. Then for breakfast the next day, I stayed clear of the hashbrowns and baked beans, just stuck with sausages, mushrooms, bacon and scrambled eggs.

I was beginning to think it was easy working away from home and doing Atkins, but then I got caught out at lunchtime, basically the only food they had was sandwiches, and I didn't want to pick the filling out and I was very hungry so ended up having a bread roll, a big Atkins no, no.

Would one sandwich be enough to ruin the induction phase?? will I have to start all over again?? I was really annoyed with myself as I had been doing really well, but lunchtime yesterday just ruined it.

It looks like you did okay until you had the sandwich.

Will one sandwich be enough to ruin induction phase? That depends on several factors, including were you in ketosis and what your CCLL is. Since you won't know your CCLL until OWL phase, it's really hard to say how your body will react to the carbs in the bread or how it will react to the bread itself. This is why, some people will tell you they ate donuts or cake during Induction and still remained in ketosis and still lost weight. My CCLL is 45. That means I can eat 40 net carbs daily and still lose weight. So if I wanted I could eat a slice of pizza, still be in ketosis and still lose weight. BUT that doesn't necessarily mean you or anyone else would be able to do that, because our bodies are all different.

Do you have to start over again? No. You just pick up where you left off. If yesterday was Day 7 for you, then today is Day 8. Just be aware that your 14 day loss might not be its optimum due to that sandwich.

So, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back on track.
