  • Really have to do something.....

Well I freaked out this morning when none of my work pants would fit me. Decided it was time to do something about my fat and stumbled upon this website. This mornings story follows.

I am going on vacation next week so I am going to wait to begin induction until Monday July 11th. This will give me time to read and get prepared. In the meantime I intend to start eating some of the meals listed here and begin walking each evening.

I currently weigh 249 pounds and have a 42" waist. I want to eventually get down to 190 and a 34" waist. I am going to set a mini goal of 230 for myself at this point. I should be comfortably in 38" pants which I currently squeeze into. No kidding.

So this morning I got up for work, showered, and started to get ready for work. I went to put my pants on which I had laid out last night. I couldn't get them buttoned no matter how hard I tried. I freaked out and went to the closet to get another pair. ALL of my pants were dirty except for the pair I couldn't fit in and a wrinkled pair in the dryer. So I ironed the pants and squeezed in. I just barely got them buttoned and this was the loosest pair I own. In my anger I smashed my alarm clock when it went off as I was leaving the house destined to be late for work. Now I am at work in uncomfortable pants having difficulty keeping my shirt tucked in because of my huge belly and I have a sore bruised hand from smashing the alarm clock. Now I have to go to the store on my way home to buy a new alarm clock and the Atkins book.

Goodbye Mr. Lee's Chinese Buffet. I will miss your Crab Rangoon and egg rolls. :sadblinky

Wish me luck on my preparations and my induction starting in two weeks.

Hey there Freak! Sorry, just trying to shorten it up a bit.

You sound exactly like me! I was about the exact same size as you when I started...a little heavier and a little bigger in the waist too. We also have about the same goals.

So I wanted to welcome you, let you know that it's not all that bad, and you can certainly do it! I've been at or below goal now for over 3 months I think. This way of eating/life is certainly much easier to do than any "diet".

    So, some advice...
    - Read the book (everyone will tell you this)
    - Get a Fitday.com account to track food/carbs
    - Take a before picture and/or measure yourself
    - Try to only weigh once a week or so (it's hard to do)
    - Clean out the cabinets!

Good luck, and have fun on your vacation. We'll all be waiting to help ya if you need it when you get back! Welcome to ha

Higgies gives you excellent advice! :yes

It's difficult, to say the least, when you crash like that and realize how big your body is. I had an eye opener last year when I had a medical problem and was forced to look at myself for what I had become physically. It wasn't pleasant but it opened my eyes, and crashing down that low was the best thing that happened to me.

Think of this as your turning point...maybe even get yourself a journal and write down how you are feeling as you move towards your start date so that if you have down days, you can read it all again and remember how being this heavy, and in this situation, made you feel.

And a big pat on the back to you for choosing a specific date to start so that you aren't struggling with special events plus trying to learn Atkins.

Another thing to start working on is to drink 64+ ounces of water a day. The general rule is 64 ounces, plus 8 ounces per each 25 pounds you want to lose. This soon becomes a habit and there's no better time than the present to start on that.

Read the book, read the sticky's in the forums and start thinking nutritionally...I can't wait to see your progress! :joy

You don't have to wait to start exercising.
Even walking is better than nothing.

Ok! I am on day 2 and doing well. I weighed yesterday and was 246 so that is my official start weight. I had a very active vacation so that's probably why I am a little lighter than before vacation.

Still no headaches yet. I am waiting and expecting them. I tried Atkins before and quit on day three because of the withdrawl pains. I'm just gonna deal with it this time. Wish me luck. I will keep everyone updated.

Ohhh! I feel your pain! My big smack in the head moment came when I went on vacation to Las Vegas last January and had to get a seat belt extension, sooo embarassing! Try to hold out through induction flu. I had it really bad for almost two weeks, but I'm glad I forced myself through it. Drink lots and lots of water and eat a little extra fat, see if that helps. Good luck! Post often, we'll be waiting to hear from you!

                Thanks for the support.

This may sound odd but I found a great way to get a lot of excercise too. Riding a jetski very aggressively for a few hours a few days a week. Talk about a full body workout and fun too. A fun alternative that some of you might like.

Ok..day four. The headache has arrived. I was hoping since it was this far along I wouldn't get the headaches at all. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Ah yes, the headache! I remember it well! So well, that I have never cheated, because I never wanted to feel that sick again! You should write down how bad you feel and keep it to read for those moments you are tempted to cheat! I never want to go through induction flu again! LOL!

Re: Really have to do something.....

                        My first moment of truth......

I went on Colorado river whitewater trip in Utah last summer .... when they were handing out the life jackets...... My guide told the person packing the raft that I needed the "special" life jacket - meaning the huge one. That made me a bit self conscious at first.....but throughout the day....and the rapids....I completely forgot about it and just had a blast.

Whelp..... a few friends were with me and we took a lot of photographs. When I got home from vacation, I dropped the film off immediately. I was anxiously awaiting the wonderful rafting photographs ( I love to scrapbook ) . . . I was looking through to photos....and saw a picture of someone's back. I remember thinking - what raft were they in - as they seemed "huge" to me. I looked at a couple of more pictures, and then suddenly realized... that "huge" person in the raft was me. A picture that a friend took of me with my camera. I was just mortified. It was that moment that I decided to do Atkins.

When I fell off the wagon... it was the death of my mother that helped me in my second go round.

I am still going strong.....I think it takes something drastic to get you in motion . . . and remembering the original reason you started this WOE is a way to keep yourself moving forward and motivated. I think keeping a journal is an excellent way to do that. Be sure to write in there when you are feeling very motivated .... as well as very sad. All of it will help...

I never got the headache, leg cramps or anything. I just felt a little tired for three days....then BAM more energy than I knew what to do with.

Hang in there...... You can do this. Everyday you get through is a day closer to goal, a day closer to being thin, and more importantly a day closer to being healthy!

                        Good Luck !

I agree with the something drastic Jester... I also know exactly what you mean about the picture thing... Especially after you lose a little weight and look back at the pics and I just can't believe I was THAT BIG! I think everyone should take before and after pics for inspiration! Not for only themselves but for everyone else to see as well!!!!!
