  • Green Tea on Induction?

I know that herbal teas are on the induction list, however, what about green tea as it does contain caffeine?

I drink 2c of decaf coffee a day...I was already doing the decaf thing long before starting Atkins....my body says a great big NO to caffeine...particularly from too much coffee and especially diet colas. :geek

BUT, I've never had a problem with green tea...and, I love it!

I see alot of people here do drink green tea....but, is it okay during induction? or should I steer clear of it until I'm into OWL?

    Thanks!

Green tea can be bought decaffeinated! Dr. Atkins praised green tea but said that some of the greater properties may be diminished by the decaffenation process.

I generally drink several cups of decaffeinated green tea per day in the winter, less so in the hotter months. About once or twice a week I woudl have the caffeinated kind.

But again, I drink coffee and always did on Atkins. <shrug>

      Thanks Finelly

I actually have both the regular and the decaf in my cupboard as when I first started drinking it (for health reasons) I wasn't sure if my body would like the caffeine...but, I had no problem with it.

I too, have heard the same thing Dr. Atkins says about the decaf...by the process of decaffination some of the benefits of the tea are lost...

I think I'm going to do the regular and see how I do....especially since my body has started the 'purge' of all the crud I've eaten over the years....my body may react differently to it now...we shall see.

      Thanks agian :wave

Oh! And, DO try it as an 'iced' tea! I make my own every summer and it's awesome! I just boil up 5 or so tea bags, steep them, then pour them into a jug and add enough water to equal 5 cups including the steeping water. Then I add a bit of splenda and a little lemon juice and I'm good to go!

oh, and ice....lots and lots of ice... :joy

Be sure to count the carbs in your tea. Most teas have anywhere from 0.8 to 1 net carb per 8 ounce serving.

Also, teas don't count towards the daily water requirement.

Yeah, that's something to always keep in mind: the tea is SEPARATE from the fluid requirements.

I chug from bottles of water all day. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon I take a break from whatever I'm doing and have a cup of tea. It's a good time to pause and reflect on how well I'm doing. But I don't count it as water. I just count it as a symbol of my break!

yup, absolutely...I drink plenty of water...that's one thing I don't have a problem doing...water is good! :joy

And thanks for the tip of counting the carbs in the tea....I may have missed it if I wasn't paying attention. :confused
