From the Acceptable Foods List in DANDR2002:
And from the FAQ board:*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed.

I gave up caffeine to start on Atkins. Once I got through the caffeine withdrawal headache, I knew I could start on the diet. Several months later, I was in a restaurant that did not have a non-caffeinated option. So I drank it. About 4 hours later my stomach was cramping with the worst hunger pangs I had experienced since starting on the diet. It reminded me of how I felt all the time before starting the diet. Famished and dizzy if I didn't eat right away. I managed to make it past the hunger with some carrots, and swore I wouldn't touch the caffeine again until I met goal. Staying on Atkins was much easier when not having to deal with those horrid hunger attacks...

Caffiene is a stimulant, anything that raises your heart rate unnaturally I would stay away from.
Still there are those who haven't given up caffeine on this W.O.E. and swear it doesn't effect them. My opinion is that its one of those things you don't notice right away, or don't detect it as quickly as other problems.335/265/230
