  • No Results in First week of Induction

Perhaps someone has been through this and can share their experience.
I've been on Induction for 5 days and been following the Rules to a T. (Before starting Atkins, I was mostly on a moderately low carb, low fat diet averaging 1200 cals per day)

I have not seen the scale or my measurements move at all. I typically react quickly to changes in diet or exercise. I think I may be taking in too many calories in comparison to my pre-Atkins diet.

    On Atkins I am eating
Bkfast - 2 scrambled eggs with 1 teasp butter ; 1 turkey sausage

Lunch - Grilled salmon steak ; 2 cups lettuce ; dressing made of 1 tbsp mayo and 2 oz blue cheese

Dinner - 1 cup broccoli ; 1 roasted chicken breast

If I eat any more, I feel gross. I also exercise (Cardio+ weights 4X per week). I have approx 10-12 lbs to lose in total. When I expect to see a big difference. BTW, Ketostix are registering a moderate fat loss, but I measure and weigh the same. What am I missing?

    Fat in your diet.

Grill salmon in olive oil or butter. Add more mayo to your salad dressing. Add cheese/butter to your broccoli.

Also Sonya, if you were already on a diet before starting induction you may not have that 'water weight' that some of us had to lose in the first week.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

More fat, okay point taken. And yes, water weight (or lack thereof) could be a factor. I am going to try and keep the fat balance high..a difficult concept for a chronic low-fat dieter to grasp.

        cheers!

Some people lose a bunch the first week, next to nothing the second. Some people lose nothing the first week, a bunch the second. some lose evenly over the two weeks.

Sounds like you fall into the second group. Same here, this time around!

I definately recommend that you use Fitday.com to record your food intake. It gives you an ongoing picture throughout the day of what your percentages are.

I know, it's REALLY weird at first to be on an eating program that requires you to consume fat and calories!!!!!!!!! But it does work!!!

I am eating till I'm relatively satisfied - I dont like feeling full. But that means my total intake is still approx 1500 cals. Heres the fitday report for the whole day - have added in the dinner I will eat tonite.
              Calories Eaten Today
source grams cals %total Total: 1430
              Fat: 111 995 70%
              Carbs: 8 21 1%
              Protein: 99 397 28%

Also, Im having my 2cups salads+ 1 cup veggies+ 0.5 tomato but it seems the carb count is still too low.

With 10-12lbs to lose in total, you should be looking for a 14 day loss of 1-2lbs. With those numbers being your reality, it's not really surprising that you're not seeing much yet.

My advice? Patience Give yourself the full 14 days. Induction isn't a 5 or 7 day process, it's a 14 day process.

                Hang in there!

I'm not in a huge hurry - just glad that I have found an eating plan that does not induce cravings which made me yo-yo in the past depending on whether I was being "good" or not any given week.

As long as I dont gain any, slow progress is better than none, or worse still the yo-yo. I feel fine at 130lbs...if I can lose the last 10lbs, and reduce body fat, Ill be in heaven.

Here's a link to help you with Fitday and understand the percentages

Make sure and have a variety of vegetables instead of having just 2 cups of lettuce. Your body needs the various nutrients they give you as well as the fiber. Iceberg lettuce is little more than chewy water, so try more leafy greens and spinach for more of a punch. :yes
