  • meat portion ,how much ?

    Hi
I have got different replies to this question. I am50yr male.I work out 4 times a week and do cardio 25 mins 5 times a week. How much protien can I eat per serving on Atkins induction and OWL? I try to use soy milk and cottage cheese and reg cheese and fish 6-8oz . Still am uncertain about red meat like roast beef, steak or ground beef. What about salami and corned beef ( there is salt and high sat,fat content in them)?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    Hi Phil! :wave
Way to go on the exercise!
You can eat liberally of protein so if you want to eat two pork chops for dinner, then do so. Or if you want to snack on a couple of chicken legs, then do so. Make sure you are eating the required amount of vegetables though.
Protein should make up 30% of your daily intake of food. You can chart this by using Fitday.com and here's a link to help you with that.

I try to use soy milk and cottage cheese
Soy milk and cottage cheese are not allowed until the higher rungs of OWL, so set them aside until you have moved out of Induction.

and reg cheese and fish 6-8oz . Still am uncertain about red meat like roast beef, steak or ground beef. What about salami and corned beef ( there is salt and high sat,fat content in them)?
You can have red meat :yes but try and have a variety of meats within the week so you get the various nutrients unique to each, and you don't get bored with your foods.
Salami and corned beef are fine, but check the labels for sugars and avoid if they contain sugar.
Anytime you eat something that's fairly high in sodium, watch your portion size, and drink a little extra water to compensate for the salt.

Phil, I have to ask you if you've read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short) as a lot of your answers are in there.
If you haven't got your copy yet, please get one :yes and if you already have one, just take a refresher and give the chapter on Induction another read.

    All the best to you!

Protein comprises 30% of your daily caloric intake throughout Atkins.

When Dr. Atkins was still alive and you could speak to him through one of his nurses at the Atkins Center, a "serving" of protein was 4-6 ounces.

Just remember 58% of your dietary protein is converted to sugar. Of that sugar, if you don't use it for energy, it gets stored as fat.

By the way, cottage cheese is a fresh cheese and isn't allowed during Induction.

:yes I have seen this in the Atkins for Life book - it suggests limiting meat/fish to 4-6 ounces per meal.
