  • Veggie Carbs

I've been searching through the topics, but I can't find the answer to my particular question, so I'll bite the bullet and ask. I'm sorry if this has been asked already...

Do the veggies count in your daily 20 grams of carbs during Induction, or is it 20 grams over and above the veggies? If they're included, how many grams of the 20 do they count for? :speechle:

    Thanks in advance!

All carbs (except fiber/sugar alcohol) count towards the 20 including veggies.
If something says 5 grams carb, 2 grams fiber...that would count as 3 carbs since the 5 includes the 2.

Now your prolly really confused. :confused

No, I think I've got it. I was just hoping they wouldn't count towards the 20. :anger LOL! Thanks!

Ok, yes, the veggies count as part of the 20 grams of carbs. BUT, you must SUBTRACT the amount of FIBER in the veggies from the total carbs in that veggie!

The only way to do these calculations without utterly losing your mind and requiring not only Prozac by thorazine is to join www.fitday.com. There you can get a FREE account and start entering in your foods each day. It will automatically calculate all of the finer details (amounts and percentages of: carbs, fiber, protein, fat, etc) for you!

It's highly addictive, by the way. But SO helpful!

            Hi Prozacwoman,
Your question begs another question -- You know that you can't eat anything that's not on the acceptable food list during Induction, correct? Almost ALL of your carbs will come from veggies, with some trace carbs coming from eggs, cheese, cream, etc. I think it's hard to eat even 20 carbs during induction with the 3 cups of veggies limit. I was usually eating 8-13.

Some people think you can eat anything, as long as you stay below 20, so I want to make sure you aren't one of those people. Right? :yes

Effie, yes, I know you can't eat just anything you want. :eating I've been eating what I'm supposed to be eating, but I'm paranoid about going over the 20 carb limit by mistake. LOL

Finelly, thanks for the tip about Fitday! And I'm already on prozac, so maybe that will help with the figuring anyway.

              xo,
