  • Question about -ose

Okay so here's my question when selecting foods generally. I bought salami. I looked at the nutritional information and it said 0g carbs. However, when I looked at the ingredients, there were some -ose ingredients in it.

I guess my question is this: should I be okay if it says 0g of carbs or what's the deal?

    Re: Question about -ose

your salami will have less then .5 carbs for the serving size they list even with the -ose ingredients. If you have a larger then the size they recommend then you will be eating more carbs and they will be in the form of sugars is all it means. Say a serving is one ounce and you bought a 1 pound salami and eat 1/4 of it. then you had 4 servings and could have eaten up to 2 carbs.

FYI Some -ose food ingredients are actually not sugars any more, but altered starches too and of course Splenda has the -ose ending so you think of it like sugar for a marketing ploy.
