  • Question - Headaches

    Hello all,

OK, so today is the last day of my official 2 week induction, and I'm happy to say that I've lost 7 1/2 pounds! (Even though I ate a few cherrys and one chocolate covered strawberry over the weekend. I couldn't help it, my grandmother brought them specifically for me.) I've decided to stay on induction since I like it and I have a very important mini goal of 200 lbs by Aug. 19th. However, I've noticed that if I for some reason can't eat lunch or dinner or whatever until later, and I'm starting to get hungry, instead of just feeling it in my stomach like I used to, I get these HORRIBLE headaches. They go away once I eat something, but I never had anything like them before, accept maybe during my 3-day induction flu. Has anyone else been experiencing these? Does anyone know what might be causing this? Thanks,

    Tara

    Re: Question - Headaches

Like you said the headaches are probably attached to the lack of food in your system. Maybe you could pack some snacks for those days you can't eat until later than usual.

Tara, just checking - how much are you drinking during the day? Are you drinking enough around the times that you don't get a chance to eat?

Other than the usual factors causing headaches such as eye strain, neck strain etc, the main cause of general headaches is dehydration - it's our body's way of telling us that we're dehydrated, and sometimes other symptoms such as nausea can come up first way before the headaches appear. But if you have a late meal (and usually you get a lot of water from foods you eat too), and if your meal is delayed, then is it possible your body isn't getting enough fluids during that time? (hence my initial question)

If you're drinking enough... then could something that you do during the day be causing you the headaches?

Nope, I'm good with the water. I drink at least 100oz each day. I guess it's good that my body knows when to demand food. I just never got these kinds of headaches before this WOE, and that's the only thing in my life that's really changed recently. Thanks for the replies!

could be low sugar levels. On Atkins you want stable levels not low levels and if you go too long just as Dr Atkins warns us our body takes matters into its own hands and calls out the reserves. Proteins can be converted to sugars in the human liver and our bodies will do that. Since food fixes you you need to carry some Atkins acceptable for your phase snacks like nuts or seeds if you are an OWLer level 3.

As to you havign to eat cause somebody brought you food. That is a major obsticle you need to get over. If Granny had brought you cocain just for you you would never have even thought about taking it. You will not hurt her feelings if you explain that you have a new eating program to help you became a healthier smaller person so you can live a long and healthy life and those foods are not at the current time a part of your WOE. Just think how bad Granny would feel if she knew she had caused you to chaet on your diet and suffer blood sugar shock!
Follow Dr Atkins advice and inform your family friends and coworkers about your new low carb eating and recruit them to be a support network for you. Then be ready when they question you havign that bowl of berries and cream in a few weeks when you get to rung 4 of OWL.

          Happy low carbing.

Yep, I find I need to eat SOMETHING every 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or I get incredibly fatigued and/or a headache. If my lunch is going to be late, I have a snack ready to tide me over.

              Re: Question - Headaches

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely start bringing a snack to work. As far as the grandmother thing is concerned. I only see her once a year, and I really don't think that my 87 year old grandmother who's very set in her ways, and has eaten bread all her life would understand this WOE. It might have just confused her and caused unneccessary concern for her at her age. As it was she thought I was sick because I had to keep running to the bathroom from all the water I was drinking. Sometimes, it's just better to leave it alone, I wouldn't equate it to Cocaine abuse.
