  • Starting July 15!

Hi Everyone! I've been lurking the board for a little over a month now, I've read DANDR at least 5 or 6 times and I've been researching this for hours on end, and I feel I am ready to start my induction tommorow! I went to the grocery store tonight armed with a list of ONLY induction legal foods. And when I was cashing out, 1 thing really struck me: 1) I have never bought SO much food and paid so little!

A little about myself... I'm a 23 year old male living in a suberb of Toronto(Canada). Ever since I can remember I've had some weight that I was always unhappy about. I wouldn't call myself obese, but definitely overweight. Currently, I weigh 180 lbs and I'm 5'8". According to my doctor(which gave me his blessing on doing ATKINS by the way) a healthy weight for me would be anywhere between 145-155(unless I'm doing a lot of weight training of course).

Growing up all I ate was what my mother had cooked. She came to Canada from Eastern Europe in the 70's, so all the recipes she made were from back home. Bread was always a staple in every meal. It wouldn't be a meal without bread, and unfortunately that has kind of stayed with me. We were always drinking lots of pop and stuff, and as I got older, I switched from Pepsi to Diet Pepsi cause I thought it would make a difference. And while it did make a tiny difference, it seems that I kind of aquired a sort of dependancy to it. 2L in one day wouldn't be uncommon for me. And don't even get me started on Pizza. Let's just say that since I've been living on my own PIZZA has pretty much been my dinner almost every other day. I expect my induction to be a little rough at first(cause i know how my body reacts when I dont get these things for a couple of hours, let alone a couple of days!).

Currently I can't afford to join a GYM, but I do have some exercise videos and weights that used to belong to my mother(she bought them and let the collect dust) so I'll be using those until I can save up the money to get a gym membership.

So anyhow, I've rambled enough, I hope to get to know all of you guys in the neart future

Welcome Bronx. I am new too. Started about two weeks ago, but first post was tonight. I got pretty bound upthe first few days, and you may as well. I took the advice of the book and bought some psyllium husk. That had the plumbing working in about 24 hours. I advise being proactive and getting some. I am still taking a tablespoon with breakfast and one with dinner. It is almost pure fiber, so I figure it can only help. My results have been really amazing. I also started walking to and from work, 2 miles each way. I am sure that has helped the results.

thanks a lot of for the tip. I picked some up today before I began work(I work beside a nutrition centre).

When I woke up I decided against doing any workout video that I own and went to use the building's gym(if you can call it that, 2 treadmills, 2 bikes and then something that I have NO idea what its supposed to do). I was on the treadmill today and I'm so glad I did it. I think I'm gonna alternate between that and the videos...anyone ever heard of Power 90? Out of all the videos, that one looks the most promising to me.

Thank you! Yes, I know. Just water for me... today at work someone suggested I drink one of those aquafina flavoured waters(spenda is the sugar substitute) but I decided against it because it will probably make me crave more sweets!

Good luck and welcome. You seem very into it and have prepared things well, so you should be just fine. I find that living alone makes it a million times easier...no one steals your food and you can cook for the week and not worry about it disappearing on you.

Keep with the water for a while adn add others back in later. Have fun and we'll see you around

              Welcome Bronx...

I just started 7/9/05 and also had terrific results so far. I second the fact of getting lots and lots of water instead of soda.
I also was a 'carb junkie' and looking back on my old days of eating; I would eat basically all carbs or at least some carbs during every single meal... it's amazing what you learn about yourself!

But keep with it; take it one day at a time; drink your water and come here for support... good luck to you!

Keep us posted on your progress!!

Hey thanks Congratulations on your results as well.

I woke up today feeling great! I'd like to think that it's because of what I've been eating, but I think it's probably just my excitement..lol
