I was reading my Dr.Atkins book earlier, yes, this is probally the 6th time of reading it, and came across something that might help some of you newbies.
From time to time I have come across posts that complain about not being able to get into ketosis. Although I mark alot of them off due to faulty ketostix which I trust about as much as the scale.
So the following advice is from Dr. Atkins, and I shall paraphrase.
Its seems, for a very overweight person the body is reluctant to go into ketosis. I mean why would it want to? The fat that you want to use for fuel is the same fat its been storing for so long. During induction we drop to the lowest amount of carbohydrates so even the most resistant person will go into ketosis. Now here is just something to remember.
Fat is more ketosis-inducing than protein. After all, 58% of protein will become glucogenic amino acids, i.e. convertible to glucose, but only 10% of fat will become its glycerol portion whichs is similarly convertible. The ease of getting into ketosis/lipolysis is based on the the Fat to carb ratio. the higher that number the more ketosis. So should strive for the max amount of fat during your two week inductions and in doing so will be taking full benefiets of ketosis, including the appetite suppressing affect.
So remember kids, Eat your fat and drink your water
