  • Scale and Kitostix junkie

    Hi all!

I am new to the board, but two weeks into induction. So far I fave lost 15 lbs. I am really excited. My goal is the weight I weighed 10 years ago when I went from working with kids in the woods, doing conservation work, to an admin position behind a desk. Two days after I started induction, I retired my car and began walking to work, 2 mile each way. My walk home takes me right by the food coop, which has really nice produce, meat and fish depts.

Against the advice of both the book, and posters here, I have been getting on the scale at least twice a day, and checking ketostix twice a day. The day before yesterday, I had been three days without any loss at all. I know that I should stop being so obsessive about the scale. But hey, I am following induction to the letter, so why not give in and watch the scale.

Anyway, after three days on no loss, I decided it would not hurt to forego cheese. I had read some people loose slowly or stall because of cheese. Thirty-six hours later, and I got up this morning and was down 3 pounds!!!

I don't know if my body was just in a cycle, or if the lack of cheese helped, but I am going to stay away for a while longer. If I have another 3 day period without any loss, while not eating cheese, I will chalk it up to coincidence and add cheese back to the diet.

    Welcome Calvinfish!

15# in 2 weeks is awesome!! Actually FABULOUS!

It is typical to have a slight pause after induction as your body needs time to adjust to all the changes you have made. I wouldnt suggest tweaking anything just yet as long as you are following the plan as it is intended. Im pretty sure that 3# would have come off even if you ate the cheese.

Ketositx in my opinion are an unnecessary expense. Once you are in ketosis, and you continue to only eat foods on the induction list you will stay there. Also if you are drinking the required amount of water then the stick may not change color for you. (Rule of thumb drink half your body weight in water. *example* 220# you would drink 110 ounces of water).

I was also once a scale addict and it can really work against you. Have you taken measurements? Sometimes........... frequently........... when you arent showing any loss on the scale there will be inches lost instead as your body shrinks and lets go of the fat. And trust me when the scale isnt cooperating it will drive you nuts. But if you have your measurements to copare you will most always see that you are still losing.

      Terry,

I can completely see where the scale would drive a person crazy. I haven't taken measurements yet but my belt is two notches smaller. I have been using fitday for the last couple days and was suprised that I was only eating about 1500-1600 calories a day and not feeling hungry. That, plus walking and giving up alcohol has certainly contributed to the success.

It fels good to be taking care of myself for a change!

Keep up the good work and remember not to let the scale dictate your day if it doesnt do what you want it to. Be sure to pay attention to those measurements because at some point the rate of weight loss slows (at least for everyone I have heard from as well as myself). Pictures help too if you have a before, take time at some point to take a during.

Then just wait for that "after" pic!!!

Another really good thing about ketosis is that lack of hunger! I work for a local school dept so am off for the summer and I keep busy. Many days I never even think of lunch until it is almost dinner time.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Good morning Dave! Your posts always bring a smile to my face! I finally put the scales away (last night) out of sight. I would hop on them more times per day than I would like to admit to. I was driving myself nuts with the 2# loss, and then the 3# gain. I have decided to weight on Thursday mornings. I am hoping to share with everyone GOOD NEWS in 4 more days! I did purchase the Kitostix last night on my journey to WalMart. I was pleasantly surprised at my shade of purple. (way to much info??? lol) It is a journey for all of us here.......so glad to be able to share with everyone!

            Diane,

I look forward to hearing how it goes for you! Funny things are haddening to me. I got up this morning and decided to go for a hike in the mountains. That urge hasn't hit me in a while! Too much to do today however, so I will be walking in town today.
