  • Getting Discouraged...

I'm on day 7.. I made it through 1 week. On day 5 I checked the scale and I was down 8 pounds.. this morning I checked the scale and I was down only 3. Is that water? I know I cheated a little day 3.. I really had no choice in the matter, I had to sample my wedding cakes. The samples were very small however, probably within the 20g carb limit.

All I've been eating has been eggs/bacon/cheese for breakfast, cheese/burgers/steaks/dogs for lunch and dinner. Very very little carb intake. Drinking lots and lots of water.

Should I just forget about checking the scale and keep it up?

Anyway, hi I'm new to the board.

    Hi Greg.

Did you get a chance to read the stickie thread called "Weight Loss isn't Linear"? If not do so, because it has great information.

As for your menu, I hope you're eating more than eggs, cheese and meat. The majority of your daily carbs should be from the veggies we are allowed to eat.

Do yourself a favor and put the scales away until DAy 14. It's normal for weight to fluctuate day to day. For some people this fluctuation drives them crazy.....

I'm a scale addict too, and I've really decided NOT to weigh again until Tuesday morning, and after that only Tuesdays. It might be helpful to have a WEIGH DAY.

Oh, my goodness don't worry about this fluctuation it's totally normal. I used to get stressed about the number now I don't I can tell you somthing this happens to me all the time. For example I was down to 207 and yesterday I was up to 216 you can't tell me I put on that much weight in a day that would be equivalent to eating 31, 500 calories in one day no way no how I could ever eat that much in a day not even when I was 285+ pounds. Don't worry about it the body has an amazing way to shift water in and out of cells, whe it gets enough water it releases it and also if you ahve been exercising even the small pieces of wedding cake can make your body all of a sudden hold onto water. This doesn't mean you gained that overnight. Stick with atkins and you'll be back down plus more. It's water weight. Oh, and also sometimes after a huge WHOOSH of say 3 pounds the scale will go back up 2 for adjustment period basically the fat cells fill with water but, it soon goes and you'r even lower. It seem the scale is like a mind game and those who rely soully on that really need to measue. Have you been measuring yourself. The scale won't show you how many inches you lost in your waist or anything. If you love to weight like I do be sure you are measuring yourslef as well so you don't get discourages with lack of scale loss.

Way to go on the Weight loss that is EXCELLENT keep it up and you'll be getting smaller and smaller.

The wedding is in October and I'd like to lose 30-40 pounds. More than the pounds, I'd like to get rid of this sluggish feeling I have.

Thanks for all the positive responses.

Well it's been 15 days and I'm down 16 pounds.

Guess I'll just keep on motoring along.

What comes after induction? What sorta carbs do I introduce back into my diet?

I have a girlfriend who is a baker. She is also a low carber. She has to taste every creation. She just tastes it, and spits it out.

You go move on to Ongoing Weightloss. There are a lot of good threads in the forum as well as excellent info in the book.

Ha. Don't swallow! Seriously. I had to make my date a lemon drop the other day (alcholic beverage with sugar and lemon) and I just swished it around my mouth and spit it out.

She didn't see .. said it was great!
