    Hey Everybody,

I'm new to these forums. A little about me:

I'm 14 years old, I'm a guy, I'm 5' 6'', and I weigh 165 lbs. I'm planning to start my induction tomorrow, I've gone out and made sure I have enough induction foods at home, and I'm planning on walking a half hour a day, and doing squats (with dumbells) and situps a couple times a week. Basically my goal is to lose 20-25 lbs in the next 9 weeks. So I'm just saying hey. Do you guys think my plans/goals seem realistic? I'm open to suggestion and tips from people that have already gone through this.

I'd say be careful. At 14, your body is really growing, you'll be getting taller and hitting some growth spurts.

I agree with Shrinking Violet, at 14 your body will need a different combination of nutrients than an adult body.
Have you been to your doctor about this to get the tests that Dr Atkins recommended before starting his programme? Are your parents happy with your decision? If not you may find antagonism instead of the support we all need when changing our way of eating (WOE) and therefore have difficulty and stress in following the WOE.

Also we do have a forum especially for teenagers on Atkins where you will be able to chat with others in your situation and discuss those problems that teenagers face.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I think maybe you mihgt have to modif a little but by all means go for it. It can't be bad eating vegetables and proteins ad upping water and cutting sugar out. You are male, so you will lose faster, you are younger, so ditto.

Just make sure no one is telling you to taste a little spaghetti or just haev slice of pizza. If you aren't ready to go full force, maybe a low carb plan might work, too

          GOOD LUCK

            Re: Just Starting

Well, actually, I got a blood workup done a few months ago simply because I was overweight and my doc wanted to make sure everything was ok. Everything was, luckily, in a healthy range, so . As far as the parents' thing goes, theyre not against it, theyre just not dieting themselves, but I can go shopping with them if I need to buy certain things. (But I have a good amount of induction-friendly food already here).

              Re: Just Starting

Welcome and all the best to you! You sound like you've read up on this, and I hope your parent's have read the book too. Make sure your doctor knows that you're on Atkins as well. The best strategy is to be educated and know what you are doing.

              From a post by Not2late:
The recommended low carb plan is described in the book Feed your kids well by Fred Pescatore, MD. Dr. Pescatore was the Associate Director of the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine during much of the 1990s. The diet described in his book is the diet that the Atkins Center used for children and teens (at least that's what Dr. Atkin's introduction in the book says). This diet is much more nutritionally suitable for a growing teen than the Atkins Diet.
I urge you to look into that so that you give your body the best it can get during these growing formative years, ok?
