  • question about psyllium husks

I've been on induction for about two weeks and i heard that psyllium husks are good for regularity. Unfortunately when i bought them and tried to drink them in water as suggested, i could not could not force myself to swallow the stuff. Just too nasty. It said that you could put in in juice or milk, neither of which are induction friendly. Any suggestions on how to make this stuff more bearable?

    Re: question about psyllium husks

I have been taking tw tablespoons a day in about 8 oz. of water. It doesn't taste very good, but it goes down okay. I do it before meals and tell myself good food is coming. You could try it in cooled herbal tea, but you still need to drink it quickly or it will gel up. I saw at the store psyllium that is 100% soluable, presumably with the gritty stuff removed. You might try that.

Others here will likely suggest other fiber options.

They are also in capsule form (100% no fillers), but I find it hard to believe that the you get the same benefit as the powdered form. I personally enjoy using Flax a lot more than psyllium husks as I can put ground flax in almost anything (salad being the number one, bread being the second) rather than having to drink it. It has the same benefits as psyllium and at least around here much cheaper. Sorry I can't help more with the husks other than give alternatives.

        Re: question about psyllium husks

I mix my psyllium husks into mayonnaise and have it with chopped celery as a snack when I need the extra fibre. It tastes a little different than with plain mayo but not unpleasant. You could do the same with anything you usually mix with mayo in a salad.

Like you I found it difficult to swallow at first - it was gluggy and just seemed to get stuck in my throat. After a while though I learnt to drink a lot more water with it, drink the whole thing real fast so that it just slides past my tongue and get it over and done with in 2 cups of water... 2 cups - easier to drink plus it is added to my daily water in take too

I didn't use psyllium husks, I used Sugar Free Fiber Choice - the fiber is inulin.

Two chewables have 4 grams fiber and 0 net carbs.

I keep a bottle on hand, just in case!
