  • carb counting bread?

I just learned we aren't supposed to have light mayo and yogurt in intro: So i have a couple other questions: What about carb counting breads or pitas? Anything else you can think that i might not know?

No bread! No pitas! Only eat foods from the induction list. Here is a link:

If its not on this list, you shouldn't be eating it!

It sounds like there's a lot about Induction you don't know, Angela. I'd suggest doing some serious reading and learning as much as you can about the program you're taking on. If you don't know what you can and can't put in your mouth, you're not going to get very far and are setting yourself up for all sorts of frustration. Cliff Notes efforts yield Cliff Notes results.

I'd suggest starting here with your reading for quick reference - but none of it replaces Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Thanks for the info. I will defiantly be cutting out a few items i was un aware of. But i am still alittle confused under the 2005 two week induction meal plan. Both low-carb tortilla and Atkins Bakery sliced bread is mentioned? As i had stated in my first post. I wish I did have the extra time to read the book, But due to the extra excerise and my kids and no family to help I rarely have extra time. But thank you for posting and being patient with my question, you don't know till you ask.

          Re: carb counting bread?

          Angela,
You have every right to be confused if you are reading info from the Atkins site. We on this forum are strictly "by the book", and do the diet as it was written by the good Dr. himself. The website has relaxed the rules a bit in order to appeal to the masses, and in turn sell more of their own product. With that in mind, you should also stay away from almost all of the Atkins food products. You'll hear these referred to as "frankenfoods". Most of them contain high levels of sugar alcohols, which can cause stalls and/or severe stomach problems in a lot of people.

Nikki & Brook were right on... read the stickies, memorize (or just print out!) the list of Induction acceptable foods, and you should be able to get by until you can get to reading the book.

Thank you again I have already printed them out. I'm glad to know that about the breads, And i also purchased the atkins mix for pancakes and such, ( thankful it tasted not the greatest and way to complicated to make So i will cut those out. 2 more things and i think i've got it Jello?? and sugarfree gum?? I've read no-ok's on both. But haven't had either yet!

Re: Jello and sugarfree gum. The jello, I'm assuming, is sugar-free & 0 carb? Some people say not to have it, and the reason for that is that you really want to detox yourself away from sweet-tasting foods, otherwise your cravings will never really subside. If you do eat them, just make sure you count them as one of your artificial sweetener allowance (same goes for the gum). Something as simple as a little 0 calorie, 0 carb cup of jello has been known to bring some folks weight loss to a total halt, so if you find your weight loss is slowing, I say ditch it.

If you are having a hard time finding the DANDR, 2002 edition. ADBB sells it. Here is the link.
Please find the time to read the book, it is so important for you to understand how everything works. Very important for your success in your new WOE.
Aspertame can cause cravings. Speaking from experience, If I eat Sugarfree Jello, I start craving other sweet foods. Sugar free jello is made with aspertame(equal).

                  Re: carb counting bread?

You ahve been given good advice already so I will just add this:
Print out the list of allowed induction food and carry it with you when you go shopping with your reading glasses if you need them to read the fine print on packaged foods.
You need to read the list of ingredients as well as the nutrition panel on the packs and make sure the ingredients are ALL on the allowed list before deciding to buy and eat any processed foods.
Many 'Low carb' products contain ingredients not allowed on induction - no matter what stage of Atkins the pack says!!
I just bought some Asda sugarfree chocolate bars (half price) for my DH who is at maintenance and was surprised to see soy flour listed which is not allowed till you reach the legume rung of OWL.
This WOE (way of eating) really makes you aware of what is inside some seemingly innocuous foods. It still amazes me that so many non-sweet foods the manufacturers seem to think need sugar in one of its disguises!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!
