  • Splenda sensitivity???

Hi all. I'm new to the forum, new to atkins, and am on day 3 of induction. I've had a truly horrible headache for three days now. I've suffered from occasional migraines since I was a teenager, and these headaches rank right up there with the worst of them. Initially, I thought it was sinuses. When the sinus pills didn't help, I came here and learned about induction flu. I figured, "no problem, I can deal as long as this is temporary". Low and behold, I woke up this morning and felt pretty damned good! I was fine all day, until I ate at 5:30pm. Then, within 15 minutes, the headache was back in full force. It was accompanied by mild nausea, achiness in my upper body muscles, and something else... I'm not sure if it's heart palpitations or a sudden increase in blood pressure. The headache is easing up now, but my arms feel so weak that I can barely lift them. When I ate, I had tuna salad (tuna, mayo, and 1 tsp of sweet relish sweetened with splenda), and about 8-10 oz of diet rite cola. The only other thing I've eaten today was eggs & ham for breakfast and a few pork rinds. I've been too full of water to eat anything else...LOL I've had nearly 90 oz. since 8am. I've had this same meal at least once a day since day one, and today I realized it may be coinciding with the feeling bad. Sorry to go on so long, but I'm hoping someone here may be able to help. Are there any other acceptable sweetners? I began using aspartame several years ago because I found out I was hypoglycemic. I recently stopped using it because of mood swings. I'm not too crazy about sweetnlow, cuz it tastes funny to me. Of course, splenda does too, but I was getting used to that. Can anyone help??
    Thanks!

Sounds like a classic case of Induction Flu, to me! Your body is detoxing from carbohydrates/sugars and it's similar to withdrawal from heroin or other drugs.

You will feel like crap for another day or so. Achey, flu-ey, pretty much what you are feeling now. But I PROMISE you that in 48 hours or so, you will wake up feeling absolutely fantastic, full of energy, and really happy!!!!

The only way to get thru this is to go thru it. Drink plenty of water, eat high-fat/high protein snacks, and take ibuprofin. 800 mg if you need it. Some other tips:

    - be good to yourself. If you need a nap, take one. if you need two naps, take two.

    - try to take a short walk once or twice a day. Just around the block. Get those muscles moving.

    - take a long, hot bath. Or if you belong to a gym, go and use the jaccuzzi.

    - If you are nauseous, don't go for three meals a day. (you shouldn't do that anyway). Eat 5-6 times per day, smaller meals.

    - Drink a ton of water. At least 64 oz per day, but as much more as you can handle.

Hang in there! This, too, shall pass!

Hellooo, Induction Detox! Finelly has given you some fantastic advice - just take it easy & stick with it. You'll get through this, Irysh; in fact, in a few more days, you can be sure that you'll have more vigor than you'll know what to do with. Hang in there!

Thanks for the response, Finelly. I had discounted induction flu since I had felt fine all day. The hot bath and the 800 mg ibuprofen did the trick ... Love those advil liqui-gels! LOL

        Thanks again!
