  • getting easier to say no!

Hubbie and I have recently started Atkins and at first it was kinda hard..but I kept on saying, Do you want that cookie or do you want a new body? The body wins!! The hardest part is when my kids want snacks like their goldfish crackers or bananna cookies....that means I have to physically touch them....yikes! Hopefully I will continue to maintain my sanity and look forward to seeing the pounds come off!!

when you consider the two options, the new body is definatly better.

    good luck!

That's the way to think - no carby food 'treat' is worth risking staying at your present sizes!!
A 'new body' beats them all hands down.

Maybe in time you can find substitutes for their snacks that you can enjoy with them which are Atkins-legal?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I had the same issue. What I do know is not touch them but pour them in my sons snack bowel and then immediately wash my hands and get a legal snack. It gets easier, just don't lick your fingers when you get theirs out the container.

similar issue here. have to make pasta for my family and you have to bite it to know if it's ready. I bite and spit. simple.

            I agree with Elizellen.
My little grandsons love fresh veggies. So when they want a snack we eat raw bell peppers(red and green), celery sticks(plain or with peanut butter or cream cheese in it), jicama, and cucumbers. Karson, age 4, asks for cooncumbers and bell peppers. He says, "Grandma, do you got any snacky things like cooncumbers?"
Try fresh veggies on your kids, they just might learn to love them too. They will learn to live and eat healthy and won't have a weight problem when they grow to be adults.

It always amazed the older people at weddings and such that we attended when they saw my kids go thru the food line and take all their own veggies and dips...... They were oohd and ahhd every time.

That was until they hit kindergarten and saw all the crap the other kids got to bring to school. <grumble> Then it was harder to get them to make better choices. Same with cereal. I always made eggs, oatmeal, plain cheerios, wheaties or fruit salads w/ yogurt but when they got older and has sleepovers the were introduced to sugary cereals. Cereals are worst thing IMO for a child to start their day.

Thanks everyone! My 6 year old lovesss veggies..her favs being broc. and cucumbers (heck anything she can dip into ranch)... Breakfast for them is usually Kix (which doesn't have a ton of sugar) whole wheat french toast or whole wheat raisin bread...however my 18 month old hates veggies at the moment but I keep on trying...he's gonna be a future Atkins man since he loves all kinds of meat... ha ha.. both my kids are extremely thin and fit...thus hubby and I are trying to change the way we eat and shed a few pounds to hopefully keep them on track as they get older!!

Re: getting easier to say no!

Hi carbs! I have two boys ages 8 and 10 (11 next week) and one thing I've found to be helpful is to not be hungry when I fix them something or give them a snack. The less hungry I am the easier it is to not be tempted by whatever it is their having. So if they ask for something I think I might take a nibble of (I'm a horrible nibbler) I'll grab some english cucumber slices or string cheese etc and munch on that while I make something for them. I also keep their stuff in a cupboard just for them, I rarely buy them junk but even shredded wheat will call out to me if I see it. Out of sight out of mind works really well for me. Hope that helps!
