  • New Girl ! A few simple questions on Induction...

Hey all, I am new here and to the atkins way of life. My name is Christina, I'm 20 years old. I battled with anorexia for 3 years of my life. I've gone through recovery for it and now I am ready to get back on track with a healthier lifestyle. My mother has been very succesful with atkins as well as other people in my life so I am really excited to begin!

I am starting tomorrow, 7/27. I already have my lunch packed and whatnot! I am going to scramble some eggs in the morning, and I have a salad packed for lunch which includes iceberg lettuce, a small portion of grated cheddar cheese, and a few slices of chicken breast. I have italian salad dressing that is 1 carb per spoonful... I didnt see anything in the atkins book on salad dresings during induction so i am wondering if they are ok to eat??

Then for dinner I will probably have sliced turkey breast with melted cheddar on top... I dunno, I am trying to get all creative for the meals, lol.

any meal/food suggestions that are induction-OK would be greatly appreciated! Like I said, I am new to all this.

I'm so glad I found these boards, seems like a great support system!
also, where do you all get thoe weight counters that track your weight loss?
    Thanks in advance!

    Christina, welcome to

Good for you for being prepared for tomorrow. That alone will make this WOE 10 times easier. Your menu looks good. I would add more/different veggies to your salad. Iceberg is fine, except it's got almost no nutritional benefits. You could add some chopped up tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, etc. The salad dressings should be full fat - none of the "light" varieties. I use Hidden Valley Ranch which also states 1g of carb, so just check the ingredients and make sure that sugar or HFCS isn't up near the top.

Check the recipe section for some more induction friendly meals. Some of my favorites are the Italian Casserole (I think this is Sadie's recipe), and the Chicken BLT bowl (which is my recipe, but I don't think I ever added it to the recipe section -- I'll go do that!) I've been following Atkins for over 2 months now, and I don't think I've had the same thing for dinner more 3 times, so there really is a LOT of variety on this WOE!

Good Luck, Keep Posting, and watch out for that Induction Flu!!!

welcome to Atkins and ADBB. First do you have your treatment teams okay to do a weight loss program again? If not please do your Atkins with their supervison so you don't find yourself losing too much again.

If you do then you want to spread your vegies and carbs out to every meal so you don't get a rush from all those carbs in one meal and destablize your blood sugar.

the dressing is adressed in chapter 11 of DANDR after the acceptable vegies part.

Welcome. I am so glad that you are attempting this WOE versus a very non-healthy way. I love the recipe section on the board as well as the atkins site that has foods by the phase you are on - just make sure the recipes only include acceptable foods. I found some that included things that are not acceptable according to the DANDR book that is suggested to read to be successful.

          Welcome Christina,
Don't forget to add your stats(SW/CW/GW) in your profile. There are people here at ADBB that make our weight counters for us. I think in the main forum (FAQ), you will find a thread about this.

          Much success to you!
          Happy Low Carbing!

thanks for the suggestions! i added some cucumber into my salad, and instead of scrambled eggs for breakfast, I made hardboiled eggs since they are my favorite anyways, and i was so happy to see that they are ok on induction! I'm actually really excited for today, day #1. thanks again!

Yes I do, thank you for asking
I just saw my therapist last week and we did my every-other-week weigh in. I have gained a lot of weight since recovery.. I'm 5'4" and I've gone from 98lbs to 145 lbs. I told her I would like to be at 120, she said it's a very good weight for my height. and she was encouraging with the atkins program. I will still be monitored by her through this, I wouldnt have it any other way though because she has become more of a friend than a therapist to me. but yes, I definitely made sure that this would be ok

                Welcome!

I am fairly new as well. One thing that I have enjoyed a lot in this WOE is grilling. I have always enjoyed this, and it is an easy carry over, especially this time of year. A nice cut of meat or fish on the grill is an obvious grilling item, but vegetables are great too.

You can cut up bell peppers, marinate, skewer and grill. Portabella mushrooms are also good on the grill. One of my favorites is asparagus. I also marinate these.

I have embraced cooking, and am having fun!

                Happy eating

I agree Dave - it is such fun to play in the kitchen with different methods and ingredients.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

You can also make a thingy to go in your signature by going to tickerfactory.com, once you have made it, copy the bbcode and paste it into your signature (found in user control panel) and it will show up at the bottom of each of your posts as you see it in mine. Each time you lose weight, you go back and recreate it and copy and past again after deleteing the old one in your signature under UCP (user control panel).
