  • Day Four--- Yipee!

My husband and I are on Atkins together and we are 4 days in.... Yesterday was the worst day (almost gave up) but we stayed strong and made it...

I am not going to be a scale slave but I had to peak and have lost 5 pounds. WOW....

I do have a questions about Induction... If you have a significant amount to lose can- how long can you stay on Induction. Also how much is an average 2 week weight loss for a very heavy person... I know what the book states but I was wondering if someone is heavier if they can expect more and does this tell you anything about how well one will do...

How long should/can/would it take if a man 6'4" over 350 (pegs out dr scale) to drop say 50-70 pounds? and how long a 5'3" woman weighing in at a whopping starting weight of 295 to drop the same? any past experience or success stories would be appreciated...

Thanks again.... feeling good today- not hungry- not craving- can tell a big difference in my fingers (not as swelled) Yeah! we can do this....

Since you know what the book says, I can share with you that for my body to lose the weight (from experience past) Induction is my friend for atleast 2 months...it gets boring, but then there's the perks of losing weight. It all depends on your body's ability to shed the fat; that's the man issue with either man or woman. There are issues with losing too fast, so take care and enjoy.

Like I said, that was from experience past when I lost 30 pounds in 4 months...I'm a slow loser, but I lose.

Best wishes on your journey for the both of you!

You can stay on induction as long as you like - but you must be in pre-maintenance to lose your last 5-10 pounds.
This is to allow you to carry out all the experimentation you need to do in OWL to start to add foods in 5 net carb amounts to find your CCLL and see what foods (if any) cause you problems.
In chapter 13 there are some questions to help you decide whan to go to OWL, and there is a sticky in this forum to read too.
BUT if you find yourself feeling bored with the food variety on induction - and if you extend your induction you will still be 'limited' by the allowed food list and the net 20 carbs rule, no matter how long you stay - then start to climb the OWL ladder to increase your food choices.
OWL (ongoing weightloss) is the MAIN weightloss phase of Atkins, and I feel that if we use the tools given us by Dr Atkins while losing our weight we are more likely to stay at goal for life instead of having to return again and again to induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
