  • Help! Deli Meat!

I went to Safeway with a co-worker on lunch because she wanted a sandwich from their deli. I figured I could just have them slice some turkey breast and cheddar cheese for me, wrap it in a leaf of lettuce, and I'd be good to go.

I get back from lunch and coworkers are telling me deli meat is bad. well actually, they said the already packaged/manufactured deli meat is bad, but they werent sure on the fresh deli meat in the deli.

did i already screw up induction? please say no

deli meats are usually cured with sugar and contain a lot of sodium as well. They should be avoided but don't worry about this one time.

Safeway deli counters usually have fairly good meats instead of the really cheap ones that have more of a water solution (with sodium and sugar) injected into them. The turkey you had was most likely of a higher quality than any of the pre-sliced/packaged turkey and ham in the meat area of the store. Even those would do in a pinch, but definitely read the labels and be choosy.

I think you did great! Next time ask questions at the deli counter about their meats. Choose ones of higher quality that aren't processed much. Once in a while I'll treat myself to their deli roast beef and turkey - especially some of the seasoned ones. Lettuce sandwiches with them are quick and good!!

Usually they have the packaging in the department so you could ask them to check the labels or let you read them (take reading glasses if you need them as the print is often miniscule!!)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: Help! Deli Meat!

I have avoided deli meats all together because I didn't know what to buy. Guess if I'm in the mood for a deli meat roll up it is okay to ask and not say oh forget it. Thanks for asking.
