    Re: Deli meat?

I think the meat from actual delis are a little bit better. But look on the back of the ingredients, it will tell you right away which one is that most manufactured, or just ask the deli person.

The problem with alot of the meats is that they cured in sugar and soaked in salt lol....gotta beware.

      Re: Deli meat?

I remember seeing somewhere (maybe on here?) that a good rule to tell processed meat from non-processed was whether it was formed, like it had been chopped at one point and then put into that oval shape thing and cooked so it held the shape. I think most chicken/turkey deli meats are processed (i don't see many peices of cut breast or whatnot) and I've seen more ham in leg form (with the bone down the middle) but I'm also willing to bet most of the ham is cured in sugar. I'm not sure I'm right on this--or even if I did read it on here. My brain has a tendency to go "hey, well that's logical, so it must be right"

Depending on when you shop/go to the deli, you could ask them. I know at Publix if I go late sunday night vs friday night or saturday morning, they pretty much read the entire label of every meat they had for me! Granted, I told them I was on a special diet for medical reasons and like I said, it wasn't busy. Good luck to you that your deli person is as nice as mine was!!!

And this also worked at the seafood counter when I asked what was in the seafood salad and sushi etc

Good suggestion kisseslikepearls (btw - love your nickname)
The more people who do ask for the information the more the serving staff will realise it is 'normal' to be concerned about what additives are in the food we buy and the more helpful and knowledgeable the staff will become.
At my local deli counter they now volunteer which items are better for an Atkineer so there must be lots of us asking!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
