First, congrats on your loss thus far. Shaz to be truthful this is not a quick fix to loose weight. In order for this to work for you, you have to look at it as your new way of eating and not something to get the pounds off so you can go back to your old habits. I know you can do this. Continue on and then start moving through the phases. You will be able to start introducing some of your old foods slowly. Check out the OWL Forum for move information and also look back at your book. Good luck...take one day at a time.

Think about what sugar (and other 'bad' carbs) gave you....gas, fat, yeast problems.

Think about what Atkins is giving you....gas problem gone, 12 pounds gone, yeast problem gone, .

On paper it looks like Atkins is clearly the winner and you have all the power in the world to choose which way you want to live your life.

Induction is a time when we deal with our cravings, and believe me, I know how hard it can be when all you can think about is a particular illegal treat but you know you can't have it. There were many a tense moment in our apartment in the first few months of Atkins...it was not fun.

But contrary to what you said in your message, you CAN live without sugar. Sit down with DANDR and re-read about what sugars do to your blood sugars and think about why it's important to get off, and stay off of that roller coaster.

Keeping in mind your sweetener limits you can explore the world of home-made treats, such as the chocolate blobs (mix cream cheese, splenda and cocoa powder then freeze in blobs) but remember, portion control is key. You can also choose to take this time to fight the sugar monster and get it off your back so you aren't ruled by a simple food item. Think of it, being able to walk past the bakery section in a store and feeling sad for the people that eat stuff like that, because you know what a horrible affect it has on their body.

Old habits die hard.....you can have a good time when you're out with friends and you don't need to drink alcohol to do it. Ask for a twist of lemon or lime in your water, or get club soda instead for something different. Remember why you go out with your friends: to talk and laugh and enjoy each other's company, right? That's the important thing here, not the alcohol, right?

And remember that Atkins is not just the Induction phase. As New Me said, perhaps it's time to check out the OWL chapters in DANDR and the OWL forum, so you start getting more variety in your diet. Remember to check out the recipe forums on the board as well as the recipe tab on the top toolbar. Being bored on Atkins is due to not being pro-active when it comes to your menu...it takes a little time and effort, but you're worth it, aren't you?

All the best to you....keep focussed on the fact that your efforts up to now have gotten rid of 12 pounds. Find something that weighs 12 pounds and carry it around for a while...that'll open your eyes...lol

Congrats on the loss so far! I agree--find 12 pounds of rocks and put them in your pocket to remind you what you've lost so far and help remind you to not eat the sugar Best wishes.

This was the very first thing I noticed about my husband when we started Atkins. carbs = passing gas!!!! I know if he cheated for lunch at work.

Re: atkins is great no more rude noises

When you get cravings for sugar just keep some high-fat snacks around. I usually have deviled eggs around. I down one or two of these and in ten minutes my cravings gone. Fat causes the brain to release this chemical (I forget which) which is a natural appetite supressant.

Also.. when you're out try to get a mineral water. San Peligrino is pretty good and it tastes great and has bubbles so people usually don't noticed you're not drinking beer.

If they give you crap just tell them you drank too much yesterday or you need to wake up early or something.

I've been telling people that I'm training for a marathon and really watching what I eat (which is true).

First of all congratulations on your wonderfull loss !!!!!
                  12 pounds, wooohoooooooo, GONE !!!
The induction fase is not for nothing, it is there for you to get used to the fact, that you are not going to eat sugar and other bad carbs, so in that way your reaction is just normal, your mind and body make you think you GOT to have sugar, it's not true though.
If you really want to get rid of the thought try reading this book called Sugar Blues by William Dufty (you can find it on amazon)
After reading that you can only think about sugar as being something really scary!!!! (strange but true)
Good luck on fighting off the sugar-monster, you can do it !!
