  • GARLIC POWDER? WORCHESTESHIRE(cant spell) and other spices??? ok or not?

ok i gotta question. I made some meat balls last night when i was bored and i used worchestershire sauce and mckormick hamburger spice and some garlic powder. But as i ate them i remembered a website that i looked at SOMEWHERE and i thought it said the garlic powder was high in carbs, (mine doesnt say nutrition facts or ingredients) and then my (forgive my spelling) worchestershire sauce says "not a significant source of......sugar.....carbs....and other things. anyone know if there's any carbs in that stuff? im confused.......which is easily done!

Speedy, all I can say is check the ingredients. Some brands have sugars and some don't. If it has "tose" on the end, it's sugar so stay away from it. Some spices do have carbs so you need to count those.

Stay tuned... there are more expert label readers here!

I would guess that the amount of carbs is fairly minimal considering the amounts of spices we use in relation to the food. Check the bottles and be sure to add the carbs.

I just went shopping for Worchestchire (sp? - lol) sauce and managed to find one with 1 carb per serving and another one (Heinz 57) that says "not a significant source of carbs, sugar..." I plan to count it as .6 per tsp. I believe I read somewhere recently that in the U.S. if it has less than .6 carbs, the nutrition label CAN say zero.

My advice: COUNT IT! It's better to over-estimate than under-estimate.

Garlic powder yields a little over 2 grams of total carbohydrates per teaspoon, so don't forget to count the carbs!

Wow, I had no idea about about the garlic powder. Back in the day I used a lot of garlic salt, but switched to garlic powder because I figured it was better. I never thought to add it into Fit Day until now.
Thank you sooo much. ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think fresh garlic is best.

all spices have carbs and you need to count them.
things in the US that have less then.5 grams of carbs per manufacturers serving size can say 0 on the lable but if that serving size was 1/4 t and you used a cup then you could have almost 96 grams carbs in there.
you can find most spices already listed on the fitday site if you use that free site to jpournal your foods and stuff, or you can use the USDA site.

yeah I bought the Heinz 57 Worchestchire sauce and that's why I have no idea about the carbs when all it says is "not a significant source of". Also, all of the spices that I have dont have a label with the nutrition facts! Thats why I was asking. If it would have it, I would be able to read it! lol! I didn't know all spices had carbs. I don't use fitday, it seems to complicated. I tried putting sausage in and it gave me 900 results for sausage and mine wasnt there, so I gave up. Does anyone use ketchup? I bought carboptions, but are we aloud to?

both if those sites have the info you need all you need to do is go to them and search.

fitday is www.fitday.com and is free but you do ned an account
you can use the USDA nutrtionsite http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

if we give you the tools you can do any food you want if we tell you you will have to keep asking. Use the tools and control your carbs before you consume them as it is too late afterwards if you have had too many and you may not have time to ask before the next cooking seesion or get the correct info if you need to wait for one of us to reply.

Actually you learn by doing. I'm sure you have heard that give a man a fish he eats for a day teach a man to fish and he eats for a life time
One of the goals of this place is to teach you how to do Atkins things for yourself just like as a child you learned the things you needed to learn to do in order to take care of yourself like tying your shoes.

looking on a free carb counting site or in a carb counting book you can buy for the info you need about a specific product and then decide before you consume it if you can budget those carbs and ingredients into your phase of Atkins is learning how to take care of yourself while doing your Atkins. then you don't have to rely on others to do for you and rely on the accuracy of those volunteers doing it for free here either cause sometimes we have folk who think it is fun to mess with folk join here and do just that.
