  • Day 8

    Hi all!

I started induction a couple of weeks ago, made it 7 or 8 days and gave in to my chocolate cravings. One little taste obviously led to more and more.

The good news is that I am on day 8 AGAIN and doing great. I have lost 8 lbs so far... This time I had the book in hand, which is definitely motivating. I know I can do this but I haven't gotten to the chapter where it talks about adding food back in.

My problem is I still occasionally have cravings. Will they ever go away? I am not hungry much of the time, which is making my problem of getting 15-20 carbs pretty hard. Last night I had 10 baby carrots w/ranch just to get my carbs up. I will just keep an eye out to make sure I have enough.

I *almost* gave in again today to MnMs but I walked away, and came back not wanting them. I am just afraid that won't always work. And I don't buy them, my husband has been eating Ben N Jerry's every night plus candy out the wazoo. He is getting ready to deploy and is using food to cope, lol.

I guess I just wanted some advice for the cravings. I am doing so good and I don't want to give up, or should I say slide.

    Hi Stacy,

What kind of food are you eating? I just started my 3rd week on induction, and I really am not even hungry. If you aren't filling up, you can eat more protein. The cravings, I get them sometimes too, I've learned to start doing something, and the craving usually goes away. Once you get out of induction, you will be able to add more food, and eventually, some low carb choclate. My fiancee seems to like it and he ate it during induction and still lost 6lbs. I also do one other thing, when I get a craving for something, I go brush my teeth, and then I don't want anything, LOL!!! It seems to work for me.

Good luck with staying on track.

      Hi Stacy,

I think you need to continue to read the book. Reading ahead will give you a better understanding of this WOE/WOL. Also, re-read the induction food list again. Carrots are RIGHT OUT! Although they are a good food for later on in your progress, at this point you need to put them away. The sugar in carrots enters your blood just about as fast as any sugar out there. Your 10 baby carrots could produce a noticable blood sugar spike. This can lead to cravings! Sugars lead to sugar cravings! One of the reasons for the <20 carbs is to avoid blood sugar spikes. If you are eating 3 cups of salad greens, or to cups salad and one cup of the other veggies, you will likely be well below the 20 carbs, but that is okay at this point and will help your cravings.

Thanks Susan. I usually eat the mock danish for breakfast with a couple of sausage links. A salad with vegs and ranch for lunch and a protein with veg for dinner. I also have cheese sticks for a snack and beef jerky. The beef jerky does have some sugar but it is the only thing that I can find to eat at night when I need a snack and can't/don't want to have more cheese. Maybe that is giving me the cravings? I don't know but I haven't found an acceptable alternative to me yet and I am losing steadily so I keep with it.

          Hi Dave!

Yes, after I posted this yesterday, I saw the carrots were for later when I was reading the book. I don't know why I thought they were okay. I carry the pocket list with me everywhere but when I needed some carbs yesterday, I went into fitday to see what had a lot and carrots did. I totally forgot about my pocket list!!!!!!! I can definitely see why they would cause a craving but I ate them the night before and my craving was the next day at lunch. I had a tighten and tone class before the craving. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. My muscles were shaking after it because we worked out so hard, lol.

            Re: Day 8

            Eight pounds already?! That's terrific!!!

I'm doing Atkins once again for the LAST time, and Chocolate is truly my nemesis.

I normally crave chocolate, so one thing that i'm doing this time is having a totally chocolate-free induction...hey it's not on induction anyway...but the first 10 days were very difficult as i had to 'come off of chocolate'...but after those 7-10 days i felt fine and no longer craved chocolate, even when my children and DH have chocolate...was i addicted or what? TOM made the chocolate withdrawl a bit more difficult, but even if i lose weight slowly and get frustrated on my progress, just overcoming this addiction is exceptioonal progress.

So my suggestion to you is to strive for 'Chocolate Free Days' and even when you can have cocoa powder later on , DON"T, this is a trigger food for many of us and it's not worth it.

            Good Luck!

              Stacy.............

No more Chocolate ! The way I look at it is, and what has helped me so far is that I do so well in the morning and blow it by the afternoon.......... with one little piece of chocolate, I think about all the calories I have consumed so far and how that one little piece will just blow me way away ! so far I am down 12lbs ! but have 59 to go.

You can do it... in just a few months you will be at your goal weight and think how wonderful you will feel ! By Christmas you will be slim and trim !

              Take care,
