  • Hi! Starting induction today...

    Hi,

I recently finished reading DANDR and I'm starting Induction today. I'm so excited! I was always fairly thin up until my 2nd pregnancy. I put on about 20 extra lbs that I just haven't been able to lose no matter what I've tried. I'm really hoping the Atkins lifestyle will be my answer. My husband has decided to do it with me...so that helps!

I had a question about salad dressings. Is it best to make your own or are any of the store brands ok? I have some Hidden Valley Ranch dressing(1 carb per serving), but it does contain sugar under the ingredients. Is this ok to use?

    Thanks,
    Hilary

Hi! Welcome to Atkins and ADBB! I think it's great you are starting this lifestyle change with your husband. You will both have a support buddy in your own house. The ADBB is a great place for support and info too. As an amateur I would say that if it says sugar or has an ingredient that ends in -ose it's probably a nono. However I have been eating caeser dressing and only going by the carb count. I should go check the ingredients I guess! Although it hasn't seemed to effect me, but who knows how much more weight I could have lost if I had checked the ingredients on everything, cause it all adds up fast on induction! I am new here too so let's see what the experts say to your salad dressing question.

For salad dressing, use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.
That's from the Acceptable Foods List.

That said, I've always used HVR Bacon Ranch - and cleared it with Atkins Center back in the day when I started. <shrug>

        Thanks, Haley.

Gosh, I thought I had it all down...then I started to get out everything I got at the store yesterday to look at ingredients and man I'm lost! I guess I wasn't really checking the sugar content while shopping...just the carbs. Well, I had picked up a couple tubes of sausage that say 0 carbs, but both sugar and some type of syrup were listed under the ingredients. I also got a bag of frozen chicken breasts by Tyson and just noticed "dextrose" is listed under the seasoning ingredients. *sigh*

Well, atleast now I know I need to thoroghly read the list of ingredients before buying anything.
