will these medication affect atkins?

i take proventil/advair for my asthma
i also take prevacid and nexium for my ulcer/gastritis

does anyone know if this will affect ketosis/atkins
because i heard some medications interfere with atkins

if anyone knows, please let me know

Good Question, I also am taking Nexium for Reflux/Gastritis, but I also take Levsin for IBS. So if anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated

I can't speak for the asthma meds, but I was on prevacid and then prilosec last time around and it did NOT prevent weight loss.

In fact, within 3 weeks, I no longer needed any of the meds to ddeal with the hiatal hernia. Completely under control. Same thing now....I don't even need tums!

Wow, I have heard atkins really helps us IBS sufferers!! I hope it does!! What a joy it would be to not have any stomach pain!!

There's a list of the medication types in the book.

Advair contains a corticosteriod. Steriods can interfere with weight loss. Granted a small percentage of the Advair you inhale will end up going to your stomach, it might not be enough to cause any significant problems with your weight loss. And quite frankly, it's more important to be able to breathe than it is to lose weight at a rapid rate.

Just a glimmer of hope for you. In the book, Dr. Atkins said that some of his patients noticed an improvement in their asthma, allergies, sleep, etc. after being on his diet. I'm one of the lucky ones who experienced a marked improvement in my asthma and seasonal allergies. Like you I was on Advair and rescue albuterol. About 4 months into my Atkins, I couldn't get to the pharmacy on time and I went a couple of days without the Advair. Surprizingly, my asthma didn't act up. So I experimented alittle and found that I didn't need Advair at all. My pulmonologist ran tests on me and took me off Advair. Currently, I only use albuterol before I exercise---but I don't even need that anymore either.

So go ahead and use those medications for now because breathing is vital. You might get lucky and be able to get off them like I did.
