  • I need energy!

    Hi,
I lurked for a while and I must say this is a great board. I started induction last week and only lasted 5 days because of lack of energy and headaches. The cravings weren't too bad and I loved the feeling of being in control. My starting weight was 143 and was down to 138.5 on day 5. I'd like to go back to induction and need to know when I can expect to get all that energy that Dr Atkins raved about. I'll start again tomorrow. Thanks!

    Re: I need energy!

you should have it when you get your ketosis going which should have been by day 5. Were you following the DANDR book chaopter 11 induction rules and all? Were you taking the recommended supplements? Some folk are deficient and need them to get all the steps going in the Atkins fueling reactions. Didi you drink all your fluids some folk get dehydrat4ed and get tired and headachy cause they don't get in all the fluids they need with the weight loss action and the natural diuretic effect of the plan.
Were you eating enough food? Many folk who are long time dieters struggle with the don't worry about the cals concept of Atkins induction eating where you feed your hunger and stop but eat again as soon as you get hungry again.
Hang in there and you will get your energy going.

Spicy-chika, our starting weights are very similar! Regarding energy levels, I felt utterly listless and completely lethargic the first few days; then after the first week passed, I had more energy than I knew what to do with. I truly believe this malarkey you went through (and likely will again as you restart!) is your body's means of withdrawal from all the unnecessary toxins to which it has grown so accustomed. You're going to pull through and feel better than ever this second time around - just you wait and see.

You might want to post your menues in the Review My Menu section for the mods there to look at. According to the book, the lack of energy is caused by keeping your carbs too low. Keeping them around 15 net carbs daily would help you out. If you're a lettuce eater, then you might want to eat the other higher carb veggies on the list.
