My fiance and I are starting Atkins on Friday (going tomorrow to buy food and get our last sodas and breads in). We are going on Atkins for 2 months before our wedding. Our wedding date is October 15th. I currently weigh 150 at 5'2 and would like to get down to 130 or 120 (120 would be great, but 130 would also be great). Is that goal in range? We're leaning on eachother to stick to the diet, and I think we can. We plan on walking each night and every other night I will be doing exercises on a stability ball (crunches pushups, etc). I just want to make sure I will fit back into the wedding dress that once fit .. I can fit into it now but i might need help and would be very uncomfortable. I gained about 15 lbs from feb-now, so i'm hoping I might be able to lose some weight before the wedding.

Am i completely out of range or do you think its possible? My fiance is looking to lose the same.

    I think it's possible.

You will need to do a lot of exercising.

But remember, inches are more important than lbs. If you don't lose much weight but lose lots of inches... then the number 130 won't be such a big deal anyway.

      Re: Out of topic-newbie

Well, it's like she said (I'm her fiance). I'm in the military, so I'm already working out. Problem is (and why the working out isn't helping me lose weight) is my (our) eating habits are bad. I'm often working on weird shifts, so a lot of times I'm either eating fast food, or junk food. Not that that's an excuse, like I said just bad habit we've gotten into. So I know that if I can change my WOE, and just keep working out like I have been (as well as going for walks or jogs with my fiance to help her out, we can drop the "weight". Like you said, I'm more worried about losing some inches on my midsection, and my face thinning out. Spent all last night at work (was a slow night) reading through these forums, and now I can't WAIT to start. Really looking forward to feeling better after I eat, having more energy, etc, as well as dropping inches and pounds. Guess I'll be seeing you all a lot over the next couple months, and hopefully after that too.

yeah definatly inches would be better than the lbs. I used to be a size 8, but now i'm a 12. Still in realm of possiblity in 2 months?

It's possible in two months, but a more realistic and attainable goal would be about 16lbs for you, Daesania. That's an average of 2lbs a week, and with lots of aerobic work and some resistance training, you could see a big change in the shape and size of your body whether the pounds go or not. It's easily feasible for you to drop to a size 10 if you're eating really cleanly and working out hard. I think an 8's doable, but you're going to have to work harder than just walking & stability ball crunches to make it happen.

          Congrats you two!

          I wish you success.

Thanks so much for the info, gives me something to expect/strive for. I"m hoping to start out walking for the first few weeks and gradually go up to running (I've never been much of a running person, even as an older kid).

Here's a couple pics we just got (our engagement pics). I'd like to see a few inches gone by the wedding day, and hopefully see an improvement in my face (but I've always had a bit of a baby-face anyway).

Aww! You guys are a great looking couple! Congratulations again!

Daesania - You should *really* check out the Couch to 5K program. Tons of us here have learned to run with it (It's how I learned to run), and it's a methodical, logical, and most importantly - doable! - way to do it.

If you go to the exercise forum, you'll find tons of info on it. It'll be referred to as C25K or Couch to 5K, and here's a link to the program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

You can only have 3 servings of sweetener a day - and if you choose to use them as something to drink, you can't count them towards your water intake.

Crystal Light powder is sweetened with aspartame, and Dr. Atkins strongly recommended avoiding it. It was clinically shown in some people to cause an insulin spike - but YMMV.

BTW- Not sure of the labeling laws where you're at, but here in the USA a company can legally list a product as having 0 carbs if it has .49 grams or less. It can list something as having <1 gram of carb if it has .5-.99 grams , so for safety's sake, if it's not pure fat or pure protein, I always count things like that as 1 gram.
