Help I am new to ADBB. 8/15/05 Induction 227/221/170-180. I realized that getting support for this would only help me but I don't know how to get a buddy or a mentor. I don't know if I am even posting this correctly. Unfortunetly I have been having a cup of coffee everyday...that is the only thing that helped me from freaking out the first week. But I did go down from 6 to 1. Also this morning is the only morning I ate an Atkins Low carb bar instead of eggs....is that ok for induction? I bought Atkins For Life but I realized that was the wrong book for my First phase. If any one has some supporting advice for ADBB and my new WOL I would appreciate it. My career and health are both dependent on it.

    Re: Help

    Hi Elena!

I live in the San Diego area as well, and if you would like to have me as your buddy, just pm me!

Definatey get the DANDR book, and read the section on induction carefully. One cup of coffee a day is ok. You're supposed to reduce your dependence on caffeine but a lot of us still hang on to the morning cup. The danger of coffee is that it can make your blood sugar drop and give you cravings. If you make sure you have something high in fat when you drink your coffee, that should do the trick.

The bars are a definate no-no, as are the shakes. Pretty much stick to natural foods, not anythin prepackaged that says "low carb". If you want to post your menu here, you'll get advice, or you can pm me with your menu daily and I'll help you out!

This way of eating WORKS. You WILL lose weight, and once you get through the first few days, you are going to experience a huge rush of energy and sense of well-being. It's fantastic!

Make sure you eat your 3 cups of acceptable veggies every day, use fitday.com if you aren't already, drink at least 64 oz of water a day, and get some exercise.

Hope to hear more from you!

      Re: Help

I've read other posts on here, that the low carb bars aren't allowed on induction. I think you should go get the right book and read it, it helps so much. Sunday makes 4 weeks I have been doing atkins. I feel some much healther. Also, I used to drink 6 to 10 cups of coffee a day, three days before I started doing atkins, I gave up coffee all together. I am glad I did, cause before I stopped drinking it, I used to have headaches all the time, now I don't have any. I understand what you mean about your health depends on you losing weight, so does mine. I am insulin resistant, and unless I change me eating habits for good, I will become a diabetic. Just stick with it, and you will do good.

Good luck, and if you need anything you can contact me.

      Susan

        Re: Help

hi Elena, congrats for beginning to kick that coffee habit. Decaf coffee or tea is fine for Induction. The reason why caffeine is taboo is because it can lower your blood sugar and cause symptoms like hunger, cravings, dizziness, etc.

In terms of the bars and shakes, we advise against using them during Induction because they have been known to stop or slow weight loss in some folks. Stick to the foods on the Induction acceptable Foods list. See the FAQ section of this board for it.

Just keep in mind that breakfast doesn't mean eggs. You can eat a leftover lamb chop or a chicken leg for breakfast if you want. We have member who likes taco salad for breakfast! Sometimes I drink a cup of chicken broth with shreds of chicken in it. So don't get stuck in that "I have to eat eggs for breakfast" mentality.

          Re: Help

Greetings Elena. Boy have you come to the right place!!! Lots of supportive people here. First please go get the right book. In the meantime there is a sticky note here in the induction section that you can print out all the acceptable foods you are allowed on induction. Those bars can cause you to stall. Read the stickies as they are very helpful.
I am on day 10 of induction and this board has has helped a lot! Keep posting!!
